Charlotte sat at the tavern bar. She was on her fifth drink, it could have been her sixth, but she didn't remember. All that she knew was that she could use another. The nice thing about being blind is no one could tell you were drunk unless you spoke. The smell of the alcohol would greet them and she would trip over her sentences. But if she remained silent, the stumbling could be because she couldn't see the ground she was walking on. The confusion could be because she had no eyes to recognize your face. And the drunk look men get in their eyes, well her's were covered in bandages.
Alexandria walked into the tavern, scanning the people around her as she did before walking over to the bar and sitting down, ordering a mug of ale. She kept watching people from the corner of her eye. she wasn;t worried though. She had enough daggers hidden on her in case anyone tried something.
Charlotte felt someone sitting down beside her. It was odd because most people avoided her like the plague. Nothing good ever came from a blind person. He, no wait Charlotte smelled perfume, she must be new to town and didn't notice the bandages over her eyes.
Alex threw one glance at the person next to her as she was waiting for her ale. She raised an eyebrow when she noticed the bandages but didn't say anything.
Charlotte chugged down the rest of her drink and slammed it on the bar. "Another one." She growled. The alcohol smelled strongly in her breath and she sounded a bit drunk when she spoke.
Alex's drink finally arrived and she took a large sip, turning around and scanning over the other people in the tavern again. She still stayed silent, not wanting to talk to anyone.
Charlotte could feel eyes throwing daggers into her back. She was guessing it was the guy she bumped into on her way in. "I'm sorry!" She finally shouted, Charlotte just couldn't stand people staring at her. "But do you have a problem with me being blind?" Everyone stared at her surprised she could tell what they were thinking, but she was blind, not dumb.
Alex gave a small smirk at the other girl's outburst. she hadn't been expecting that but the reactions of the other people there...well it made her glad she;d come to the tavern that night.
Charlotte gave everyone a disgusted look before dropping some Imperials on the counter and stumbling her way out of the tavern. Once she was outside she punched the wall in frustration. It hurt, being blind. She hated it more than anything. Charlotte would have cried if she still had eyes to make tears. After a few shaky breaths she regained her composure and tried walking again.
Alex finished her ale, scanning around the tavern one more time before dropping a few coins on the counter to pay for the drink, heading back out into the streets. As she stepped out she pulled the hood of her cloak back over her head.
Charlotte stumbled and bumped into Alex. It was the same person that had been sitting next to her in the bar. It was definitely the same perfume. Charlotte steadied herself and apologized to her. "Oh, sorry."
Alex shrugged. "Not a big deal." She said, looking the other girl over again. "I have to say...after what you said back there it was...entertaining to see how the others reacted.
"Too bad I couldn't see it." Charlotte muttered to herself. She scratched the back of her head. While doing that she ran her fingers over her enchanted bow. It calmed her, but also frustrated her because she couldn't use it.
Alex had turned her attention away from her, scanning over the crowds. She was really hoping she'd be able to find a job soon....
"So what's a pretty girl like you doing carrying so many daggers?" Charlotte asked. She knew the compliment wouldn't mean anything because Charlotte really couldn't see. Charlotte had felt the daggers under her cloak when she bumped into her. She estimated there were about thirty of them, but that was only on her right side.
Alex raised an eyebrow impressed. She'd had them all hidden and was surprised the other girl and realized they were there. "I have my reasons." Was all she replied.
"I see, so you're one of those secretive types? That can only mean three things. One, you're a murderer on a mission for revenge. Two, you have absolutely no idea how to use those, but you think you can intimidate people with them. Or three, you're in the creed." Charlotte shrugged. She knew people well enough by now. People never believe the blind have ears. That's always their downfall.
Again she was surprised. This girl might be blind but she seemed to know a lot. "Which one do you think it is?" She asked, crossing her arms and leaning back against the building.
"Well since you're not offended, you obviously know how to use them. That leaves one and three, but because you're intrigued on how I found out this information you obviously care about keeping your identity a secret. That gets rid of one. So assassin, how was your day?" Charlotte figured a little sass wouldn't hurt. She honestly didn't care what this assassin thought. It wasn't likely people would believe a drunk blind warrior over a woman that carried herself like she was nobility.
"Awful. But at least the weather looked nice." Charlotte replied. Some people found it funny that she would talk about seeing things when she was blind. Charlotte did it on purpose, but she found it more natural than funny.
She raised an eyebrow at the comment but didn't say anything, shrugging it off. She might be blind but she;d seen more about what she was really like then anyone else who could actually see had.
"What? Are you just going to stay silent? You know I can't see your face so you need to speak up! Are you smiling? Frowning? Seriously." Charlotte spoke, highly annoyed. This was why she couldn't carry a conversation with people. Too much of it depended on facial expressions she couldn't see.
She rolled her eyes. "Well I'm silent by nature. If you must know I was raising an eyebrow, then I just rolled my eyes." She said, still leaning against the building.
"That's better. If you're going to communicate with facial expressions, then I'm sorry, because you'll just be talking to a wall." She replied.
"So what? You're doing it again." Charlotte rubbed her temples. This was getting difficult honestly. She was used to talking to people, but it was still frustrating to not be able to understand people because so much of it depended on seeing.
"Sorry. I shrugged." She replied. "And I don't know what to say now." She was still leaning against the building, every now and then throwing a glance around the streets.
Charlotte nodded. "How gracious of you. People with nothing to say are a waste of my time because I can only smell the rotten stench of men, taste the sour bitterness of alcohol, and hear the stingy voices of people."
Skye Falcon walked in and looked around the room. Okay, no problems here, she thought as she finished her look of the room. She sat down at a table near Charlotte and Alexandria. She waved over a waiter with a charming smile. "A glass of ale, please." She said, then sighed as the water walked away.
Jasper ran in. "Water, please." He panted. Well, being ordered to run in front of the Princess by the General was fun. When the water was handed to him, he downed it quickly. "Thanks, mate." He payed then jogged back out again.
Charlotte nodded goodbye to Alex, stood, and left. Maybe there was someone else out there who was a bit more talkative. She pushed the door open and felt the cool blast of night air. It might not have been night, but it was always night for Charlotte. She smirked to herself as she disappeared down the street.
Skye watched the warrior leave and tilted her head. She shrugged and recieved her ale, handing over the right payment. She slowly drunk it, looking around.
Arwen walked into the tavern, and asked for a glass of water. She sat down next to a girl on a table that was the only one that was not crammed up with people.
Skye looked up from her ale. "Hello?" She said, taking another sip. She looked the girl over. And elf.
"Hello," said Arwen, then twisted her fist over her chest as a sign of friendship.
As Skye didn't know how to do that, she nodded her head back. "The name is Skye, a knight for the army."
"Arwen. Soldier and fighter for the people of the forest."
"Nice to meet you, Arwen." Skye nodded her head once and sipped her ale. "Would you like me to order you a drink? I can get the waiters over when it's busy." She smiled and put her red hair over a shoulder.
"Yes please," said Arwen. "I never seem to be able to get their attention."
"Sure." Skye smiled and stood up at the table. She ignored the looks from some males she got. "Waiter, please." She called out, flicking her red hair off of her face and putting forward a charming smile. She sat down and chuckled, smiling at Arwen when a waiter came over.
