Elke (misspider) My first vampire novel this year was:

Motherless Child by Glen Hirshberg

As you see, this book was not a perfect start for me, but it can (and will) only get better!

I intentionally waited for the last book to be published so I could read the trilogy at once. I hate to wait several months for the sequels and in the meantime forget any details of the previous parts.

Though I had my problems with this short story, I will keep an eye on the author's future work.

Eyes Like Blue Fire by Amanda M. Lyons

Nice idea, poor implementation - the ailment of most first novels by unknown authors. On the other hand, I admire people who live their dream and publish their own book.

Elke (misspider) My 2013 vampire read #6:

Hell's Belle (Hell's Belle, #1) by Karen Greco

Though this book definitely qualifies as typical vampire chick-lit, it was a nice light in-between fare and surprisingly well-edited for a first novel.

A great vampire/western genre mix, I hope we will come to read more of the adventures of Trevor Lawson.

Something Wicked by Catherine Mulvany

Review

Actually, I already started reading the book with the intention of selling it afterwards and thus making space for new stuff. I definitely knew what to expect from this kind of book, but at least I hoped for an original implementation. However, instead of some light entertaining snack in between I was cursed with this boring imitation. On the plus side, I can now kick it out without hesitation ;)

Sounded so promising when it was published several years ago as an amazon shorts ebook. Wonder what has become of the author and his full-lenght novel project.

Great premise, but poor writing. The original idea would make for a great novel. There are not that many vampire/alien novels out there.

More historical novel than vampire story, but worth reading. Lots of dark atmosphere and ancient superstition.

After the book collected dust on my shelf for years, I decided it was time to throw it out, but not before reading it. A really fine version of the Dracula story with exceptional illustrations.

A vampire who is bound to the holy ground of the cemetery where he was killed, the idea that a vampire can still be alive - lots of interesting new ideas in this book.

I simply loved it! I guess this is my personal discovery of the year so far.

message 29: by Paddy (new)

Paddy (paddythegod) | 30 comments I've only recently finished reading "Product" and enjoyed it a lot. I do however, find that recall of the storyline ,already, is becoming vague and needed prompting. When the next book "Byproduct" comes out I'm sure a recap will be needed.
Bearing this in mind I couldn't give the story 5 fangs, just didn't catch my attention enough.4 would be fare.

While I can relate to your argument, personally I just don't see that problem arising for me. And anyway, a good sequel will take care of that with some kind of recapitulation of former events, so I guess it shouldn't be a problem.

I've always wanted to see a vampire/western. It's been done in the movies before but not very well. I think I'll check this one out.
