HEY!!!!! I'M DEFINITELY A CRAZY BOOKWORM!!!!! I READ 10 BOOKS A WEEK AND LOOOOOVE GOING CRAZY!!!!!¡¡¡¡¡¡
Hello, I'm Tanya, I'm 33 years old and from South Australia. I read pretty much anything but haven't gotten into the whole vampire thing yet but am wanting to try. I am also interested in reading some of the 'classics' to see what all the fuss is about - any TIPS on a good classic to start with that's a good/easy read/page-turner? Thanks, Tanny :-)
If you want "classic" and "vampire" then Dracula by Bram Stoker. It's pretty hard to read, though.
Would you prefer good, bad, or neutral vampires?
Classics: To Kill A Mockingbird, A Wrinkle In Time, A Christmas Carol, Moby Dick, or maybe a collection of Edgar Allan Poe stories.
A new-ish series I absolutely ADORE is The Mortal Instruments. They're so funny, and there are vampires in them. There's even a Mean Girls reference in the 3rd one!!! The first book is City of Bones, and they're by Cassandra Clare.
Hope this helps!!

Thanks heaps Maggie! I'm really not sure about the whole vampire thing - I've never enjoyed vampire movies but then everyone seems to say things like "oh Twilights not just about vampires". I guess I'll just borrow whatever vamp books my friends have handy and see how I go. I've got Mockingbird here - I did start reading it but found the first few pages a bit dull. Does it get more interesting? I suppose I didn't really give it much of a chance. Which out of the classics you mentioned would u say is the easiest read? Thanks again for your help, Tanya

Tanya:
It does get a lot more interesting. I'm not sure what edition you have, but in mine it gets really good about 1/2 way through. You kind of just have to power through the first part in order for it to get good.
I really love A Wrinkle in Time, but it's a bit confusing, and the beginning is not too spectacular.
A Christmas Carol is definitely the easiest Dickens book, although it's confusing. On this particular book (and you will NEVER hear me say this about any other book), I would suggest seeing the movie first. My favorite is the Mickey Mouse version, then the new Jim Carrey animated version, then the Muppet version. It's also a fairly short book with plenty of action, good pacing.
I would not recommend reading Moby Dick unless you read an abridged version. I honestly cannot remember anything but the first line, which is the only reason I read the book: "Call me Ishmael."
Edgar Allan Poe is great, but his stories are very short. Many are poetic-y stories that can barely count as prose, but seriously, "The Raven" is a good, scary poem.
I forgot to mention a couple: The Chronicles of Narnia, which have since been made into movies (I think), any Agatha Christie mysteries, any Shakespeare plays (make sure it has the modern translation though), and I've been told Wuthering Heights is very good, although I stubbornly refuse to read it for reasons unknown, even by myself.
Easiest: A Wrinkle In Time, A Christmas Carol, or an Agatha Christie
That probably made it worse :{D
