Emma Holly's "Strange Attractions" has a tease and denial scene between her H and h that should be read aloud by every male who ever hopes to get lucky. (He teases her until she is half crazy to take it all the way.) Again, Emma Holly's books, "Prince of Ice" and "Demon's Fire" contain scenes that have been responsible for some, ah, memorable, evenings. Reaching waaaaaay back, Kathleen Woodiwiss, "The Wolf and the Dove" and "The Flame and the Flower" have very erotic love scenes.

Is there anyone who thinks like I do, that sometimes it's what you don't read that makes a scene more romantic? Cause I'll tell you, my imagination is sometimes better than anything.

I find with certain authors, their ability to create an erotic scene is so good, I want it all on the page. Of course, this is just my personal preference. I understand those who would prefer the PG rating.
I mean if a scene is really well written, I do like it, but lately I find so many of they are written just for the sake of putting sex in something.
Remember finding your mom's copy of Valley of the Dolls? W.O.W. Or what about the first time you read Erica Jong's Fear of Flying? Fantastic reads then and now.
Most historical romances have such scenes in them....I've read lots of books by Judith McNaught and Suzanne Enoch who are awesome authors who put in such steamy scenes!
Have a look at Unwilling...Berserker trilogy...Who wouldn't want to be a Berserkers mate...Pheeeww! Very hot and bothered!Unwilling This is just the first one of the three and all are a great adventure too.

Hello everyone. I've enjoyed reading the comments here discussing sex scenes -- what is steamy vs what is best left to the imagination.
Please tell me, is this thread entirely dedicated to the genre, "Romance" books?
A wrote: "I like kinky gay scenes."You should try the books by S.E Jakes, steamy sexy Gay romance. Be warned, they have very graphic gay sex descriptions but the intensity of the feeling expressed makes them great romances too.
The problem with using steamy scenes nowadays is that if someone is looking specifically for that, there is a lot of free erotica on the web.

I still think you can have a great 'steamy' romance. Strong scenes can be beautifully written and are (to me) very romantic if the tone is right.
Both sex and romance are manifestations of the human need for connection and its fundamental importance in our lives. Millions of people of all ages struggle with relationship issues, love, passion and dating. Male and female have differences in their views on love and sexuality, often leading to miscommunication. It is my opinion that whether the book is classified as Romance or Erotica, it is the authors' views exemplified by the created characters that makes each story uniquely interesting.
I was told that a radio interviewer that he could not interview me the author of a book entitled Love, Lust and Other Complications was too 'racy' for his older audience. I was surprised as the book looks at the characters who are older and their exploration of sexualitiy later in life. The sex scenes in the book are not gratuitous sex but are include to indicate that sex at any age is a pleasure not to be missed.

Romance as a genre is fantasy and you're never too old for a little fantasy.
I always laugh when I hear someone say that a book is too risque for an older audience...Do the people who say that really think that the older generation didn't do all the exact same things that the younger Gen do now... My gran used to say that the only reason old ladies didn't have sex was because there were hardly any old men to have it with! She loved a steamy scene in a book and used to fan herself with the pages if it was particularly 'hot' so I always knew if it was worth reading or not by how many wafts she gave herself...
A bit of a flap - sexy but not much more than a simmer.
A good couple of fans - hot enough to leave a singe mark.
A full up and down waft using all the pages and then rests book on chest for a mo - Smoking!

A message to those youngsters who believe that we elders were so much different than they. The best thing about the good old days is that, back then, we weren't good and we weren't old.
I always tell people my book is for people over the age of thirty. Any age under that and they're just going to be shocked :)
The good old days, LOL. This phrase was coined with a certain amount of sarcasm, now we have misinterpreted the meaning. Jim you are right, we were never good but we got away with it! There was no social media to tell a distant entity what we did. There was no 'Facebook' to brag about our misdeeds or pin photos! In the good old days, as I remember them the Gendarmes rode pedal bikes to accidents and trivial crime. You are right Jim, it was not that good a time and it was old time only for our elders!
I am a strong believer in steamy scenes if the writer sticks to acceptable language. But too many loose the impact of the books story by swaying to the far side of pornography. So it is my opinion that sometimes less is better not to say allow the reader to use his imagination, we are not stupid or inexperienced.
