Hello people who are not Nanowrimo people! I don't think I have met Dave, (hello Dave!)... Edit: and hello Paul who commented while I was commenting, :)
You've reminded me about Milk and Cookies, I should put it in my calendar. I'm so awful at remembering to go to these things, but I'm pretty sure the next one is on the 14th of May if anyone wants to go too :)
As for books, I meant to say to people, I highly recommend The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.. I just finished it a little while ago and had to go out immediately to buy the sequel. I was recommended it as a filler while waiting for the next George RR Martin book, but it stands up on its own, not just as a replacement for Game of Thrones, lol...
I'm supposed to be walking right now, sort of training for the mini-marathon in June...so for now I shall say see ya and go and get some fresh air :)
Hello Maebh and Paul, yay!
What's the King of Thorns like?
Also Maebh, I'm doing the mini-marathon too, you running or walking?

Just walking it, I don't have the stamina or fitness to run it, lol... Even walking's gonna probably take it out of me, haha, I am so unfit it's not even funny... Well, I guess tha's what I get for being a smoker and lazing around :p
I'm just walking it too, trying to raise money for my nieces' school. Walking buddies! I'm doing a 50km hike a week and a half after the mini-marathon as well.
A friend gave me a great training tip. Audio books of books you've been meaning to read.

I saw you're doing the 50km! I couldn't do that, not with a year and a day of training, lol... I'm doing the mini marathon for Doctors without Borders, I think.. I should really sign up to the charity :pI should get a few audio books, I was listening to music today but it's still a bit boring... I always hated walking just to walk. I don't mind walking to get somewhere but walking for exercise is just *yawn*....
If you're in training though... Any way I wanted to find out about this milk and cookies thing. Used to go to a storytelling night in GalwAy and am missing it since I came up here.
Also I'm reading The Emigrants by WG Sebald. It's beautifully written, but if you're in a depressed mindset or are feeling lonely, be warned, the book will intensify and magnify that desolate feeling and leave a hollow craving for human affection in your chest cavity. Read it when you have someone close by to hug afterwards.
Hey everyone! Sorry, this is my first comment as I have the end of a Masters eating my face. But three weeks from now I will be free and then it will be books and wine until my mind collapses.I am balancing my time between writing and working my way through the entire back catalogue of Constantine graphic novels, but plan to start this Lev Grossman nonsense when I'm done :)
How are all of you? Also, if you like audiobooks, try Bleak Expectations. It is brilliant. And has Anthony Head as the greasiest villain of all time - Lord Gently Benevolent.
@Dermo If you like storytelling, definitely come to Milk and Cookies, it has a great atmosphere, check out the facebook page to keep track.
@Dave I've been meaning to download some Bleak Expectations for ages since an ex played an episode for me.

Hi guys! I've been meaning to go back to Milk and Cookies again, I'm definitely gonna be at the next one so hopefully I'll see some of you there. And I'd never heard of Bleak Expectations either, but reading the description on Wikipedia had me cracking up, so I think I need to check that shit out...
Also: Hello to all the folks I haven't met yet!
I don't know if I'll be at the next milk and cookies do to exams but I'll definitely come to the one after that.
Hello folks, I'm Aaron. Programmer by day, scholar by night, scribe when there's time (and also when there isn't.) It's a wet one where I am, but then, we're all in Dublin, so it is where you are too. The book in front of me is 'Wobblies and Zapatistas'. Right now I enjoy learning about working class history. I like considering how we can bottle up the great successes fighting for equality, without losing sight of mistakes. 'The Langston Hughes Reader' is waiting on deck, but I've already been dipping into that when I can't help myself. Then there is Irish language literature, ach tá sé ar an mhéar fhada. Requires undivided attention, which I plan to give it in the near future. I wish I had more brains.
I'm a little concerned you are a zombie Aaron, but then I often am when people start asking for brains.
yeah my plan to read in the sun this afternoon was cut quite drastically short by a flock of hailstones. ridiculous.
Hi Cathy! NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month, where a whole load of people around the world try and write a novel of 50,000 words in November... there's a bunch of people who do it in Dublin who meet up in town and some of us met during that last year... :)And Milk and Cookies is a storytelling event that happens in The Exchange in Temple Bar once a month which is full of people telling stories and drinking tea and eating nice things :)
Actually Milk and Cookies isn't in the exchange anymore its in a new arts space called the Chocolate Factory (26 Kings Inn Street) down the side of Cineworld on Parnell Street.
Hailstones are my least favourite type of weather, my ears stick out and if one of those bastards catches you on the back of the ear there is an excessive amount of screaming in public.
Ah right, didn't know that :p Haven't been in ages..That's miles away! It's a good job you told me or I'd have been wandering around Temple Bar like an eejit :)
Good to know. I've never actually gone to the exchange altho I've passed it numerous times. When's it on? I've convinced a few others to come too.
ye prince and kind of thorns is very good. cant wait for the emperor of thorns to come out. jus finished the way of kings by sanderson. tats very good 2

All the best

Now obviously a good few of us know each other in real life, most of you know me, but not all of you know each other. Alan, Bernard and Maebh did NaNoWriMo with me so you guys know each other.
But you might not know my friend Dave, who I met at the great storytelling event Milk and Cookies, which Alan goes to all the time now.
Lots of you just joined on the site and haven't met us in person so talking would be good.
What other books are people reading at the moment? Has anyone else got exams? Does anyone write? And if so what are you writing right now?
Also how is the weather where you are.
