I just started the odyssey into this book and wondered if anyone would take the journey with me. From what I have read so far it seems that it would be better to venture within Dhalgren accompanied.

I am currently on page 114, from what I see there is something essential about Kidd's notebook and the city's newspaper (especially the random dates- or are they random?). Kidd seems to be writing the novel while the novel is writing Kidd. I expect the character to be stepping out of the novel more and more. Anyone else?
Dhalgren requires multiple readings. If you find yourself tempted to start over again as soon as you're finished, you won't mind doing that a bit.
If yu can find it, look for a book by Delany called "The Straits of Messina". It contains a review by Delany's critic alter-ego K. Leslie Steiner that illuminates many mysteries about the tale.

I am Paul Blackwell, who was mentioned in "Straits" as having contributed to corrections in "Dhalgren's" text. I spoke to him twice over the phone(once he called me) and I am the guy who made a major correction concerning Madam Brown at the Richards' dinner party early in the book. As a result, he sent me signed copies of the "Nevereyon" series, even correcting the first one himself with white-out and ball-point pen. Amazing book, amazing man.
