Djuna Barnes published her novel Nightwood in 1936 in England, and a year later in the U.S. T.S. Eliot wrote an introduction for the 1937 U.S. edition.

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) Anyone who anticipates falling in love with Barnes, or who has already had the fortune to do so, I would highly recommend attempting to get a copy of the Dalkey Archive edition of Nightwood. It went through the scissors in order to get it through publication back in 1936, and this is still the standard edition available. But the Dalkey edition restores what was cut and includes muchmuch other editorial and textual-critical material. I say a few words about it in my review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Here's the Dalkey page: http://www.dalkeyarchive.com/book/?GC...

It's available used, but not for cheap. Here's the ABE listing: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Searc...

I wrote to Dalkey a few months ago to find out when they would have copies available, but got no response. I'm still bitter about it...

Looking forward to reading the original version.

I'm beginning to suspect that their intention of keeping books in print is nothing but a rumor.
