Annie~Marie | 16 comments I hope it's ok with the group Moderators that I posted a new topic, but I didn't know where else to ask for HELP!!

I've been a Goodreads member for afew months now, but I have hit a wall. I literally do not know what to read next and want to try something different. I keep picking up books and putting them back down. I usually read Contemporary/Chick-Lit and all the story lines are pretty much the same sort of thing. I'm getting bored. I want something different if anybody has any recommendations? I'm not really into Horror/Sci-Fi or Mystery, but I do want it to have some Romance in it. I thought a challenge or two might get me out of the 'reading slump' I find myself in.

Any Romance Book suggestions to try and Challenges to start would be greatly received.

Kessa | 59 comments I'm very new to Goodreads (Joined afew days ago) and I love the Paranormal Romance Genre. Have you tried any PNR?

Something different to try: I'm reading Kiss of Fire (Dragonfire, #1) by Deborah Cooke at the moment. It has Romance, Magic, Shape-Shifters, hunky Alpha Heros etc. What more could you want LoL.

I'm taking part in a Tower Team challenge. It's groups trying to read a number of books to reach their goal first. A great way to pick up recommendations!! I'm also taking part in afew yearly challenges at the moment, but I don't know how to post links to them. (Sorry, I'm still learning) If you scroll down the discussions, you should find them. Maybe the Moderators or more longer active members could help out here with a challenge suggestion??

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments Let's see...I'll do my best to think of some recommendations.

I haven't read very many contemporary romance books, so I probably won't be much good at recommending those. Although I did like this series: Kane (Louisiana Gentlemen, #1) by Jennifer Blake
Also, Jayne Ann Krentz has some good contemporary romance that is quick and fun to read. That's the extent of my contemporary romance knowledge.

Have you ever tried any historical romances? They can be really good. My favorites are:
The Lost Duke of Wyndham (Two Dukes of Wyndham, #1) by Julia Quinn The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #1) by Jennifer Ashley and The Pretender (Liar's Club, #1) by Celeste Bradley (this series is full of angsty goodness)

If you want to try some paranormal romances, I would recommend:
Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward Demon from the Dark (Immortals After Dark, #10) by Kresley Cole Covet (The Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire (Love at Stake, #1) by Kerrelyn Sparks A Quick Bite (Argeneau, #1) by Lynsay Sands The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning

I know you said you don't like sci-fi, but do you like fantasy? If you do, I could give you several recommendations. The first of which is The Fairy Godmother (Five Hundred Kingdoms, #1) by Mercedes Lackey by Mercedes Lackey. It is a light series, nothing too deep, but they are fairytale retellings and all have romance.

I'll go through my books tomorrow and see if I can find more recommendations. Let me know if you have any other likes and dislikes and I'll try to recommend more. It's past 1:30am here so I'm going to call it a night. 8)

Annie~Marie | 16 comments @ Amanda. 1.30am? Oh my goodness, thank you for taking the time to answer me question then. I've never read Fantasy, bit I think I might just try The Fairy Godmother (Five Hundred Kingdoms, #1) by Mercedes Lackey , it does sound interesting. You never know unless you try right? I'm not sure on Historical, but I'll have a look at the others aswell, thank you. I think my TBR pile might just start to grow. (and my purse might take a beating...)

@ Kessa. I've never read Shape-Shifters. But I do like the sound of Dragons (my sister LOVES Dragons, so will pass this onto her also). And I do love a good Sexy Alpha Male (Who doesn't?) heheheh.

I will give it a try. Thank you ladies for some great books to get me started. I'm off to add some now :)

message 5: by Isha (new)

Isha Annie~Marie here are a few of my favourite contemporary romances.

Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips - a very sweet and funny romance
Something About You (FBI / US Attorney, #1) by Julie James - its romantic suspense but focused more on the romance.

Talk Me Down (Tumble Creek, #1) by Victoria Dahl - hot and funny romantic suspense

not sure how you feel about paranormal romance but Nalini Singh is one of my favourite authors and I love her Psy/changeling series. Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh

Jill Shalvis is a great comtemporary romance author. You might want to give her Lucky Harbor series a try. Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor, #1) by Jill Shalvis

You might also like to try the 2013 May Pick It For Me! Challenge in the Romance Readers Reading Challenges group.

Annie~Marie | 16 comments Thanks Nikita. They sound great. I like the sound of the Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor, #1) by Jill Shalvis Lucky Harbor series. I think I have one of her books on my TBR pile, but can't get hold of it anywhere. And Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh does sound interesting, I've added it also. And thanks for the Challenge link. I'll go check that out.

How do I join the team challenge that's been mentioned? Can anyone point me in the right direction???

message 7: by Alba (new)

Alba | 9 comments Annie~Marie, If you like the sexy possessive alpha males types, then you have got to read some Highlander books. My recommendations are Master of Desire (Brotherhood/MacAllister, #1) by Kinley MacGregor or Laird of the Mist (MacGregors, #1) by Paula Quinn but if you want some with a PNR twist there is Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander, #1) by Karen Marie Moning or Dangerous Highlander (Dark Sword, #1) by Donna Grant . I could not put these down. They all have a strong romance story line to them. I also loved Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor, #1) by Jill Shalvis and would recommend this series!!

message 8: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments HI Annie-Marie!

Have you read any YA stories? Many of them have romance subplots. I would recommend:
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater Stardust by Neil Gaiman Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

For contemporary romance, I really liked Love Unscripted (Love, #1) by Tina Reber .

I haven't read it, but I've heard that Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon is like *the* historical romance to read. It's on my TBR pile, but it's kind of a monster doorstop so I just haven't gotten around to picking it up yet. :)

Lára I´m not really a romance fan and therefore chose books that are not labeled as romance, but most of the books have romance in it anyway so I´ll say: you should read The Fever Series 5-Book Bundle Darkfever, Bloodfever, Faefever, Dreamfever, Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning
series by Karen Marie Moning. It´s romance (adult) but with some action and it actually has a plot. Not really mystery (I don´t like mysteries either) but paranormal. You know, faeries but not Tinker Bell.

Fever series are my all time favourite. I´m hard to please when it comes to books but Ms. Moning has yet to dissapoint me. 5 books of pure enjoyment and even then it´s not over, for there´s graphic novel Fever Moon and Dani O´Malley trilogy that´s ongoing and set in the same Fever world.

Read a sample, place Darkfever on probation/read first 3 or so chapters and you´ll see it´s worth your time.

I even re-read the first book and planning to read it once again and re-reading is something I don´t do.

If you want something unusual, read The Poison Diaries (Poison Diaries, #1) by Maryrose Wood Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins
Darker fairy tales but completely original (and not horror). All are different from each other

Annie~Marie | 16 comments you know, I never even thought about reading YA books, I always thought I'd be too old to enjoy it (I'm in my mid-thirties), but the plots do sound good. I've added the The Fever Series 5-Book Bundle Darkfever, Bloodfever, Faefever, Dreamfever, Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning series to my list, it does sound good. Thank you for the link to the sample chapters.

Annie~Marie | 16 comments I knew this was the place to come for recommendations!! I've had some great ones so far. Thank you everyone for taking the time to post books for me, I appreciate it, I really do.

There sound really good, I'll add them also.

Kessa | 59 comments YAY, I figured out how to do it. Here is the link to the Challenge I was telling you about earlier. There are 100's of books listed there, so you should find some great ones, they are all part of a series.

Annie~Marie | 16 comments Thanks for the link Kessa, the challenge sounds like an excellent idea. It will take some working out though :) All part of the fun I guess.

I didn´t link samples BUT you can usually find them on author´s official site or Barnes & Noble and similar bookstores. I know I always download samples from B&N and I recommend you do it, too. (:

I´m not particularly fan of young adult either, that´s why I recommended books that´re more .. well, I guess "serious" is right word.

Discovery of Witches is not young adult at all. It´s adult love story set in 21st century with some historical elements, with lack of action but really good written. You´ll get lost in it, but that´s a good thing. (;

Alba | 9 comments Have you thought about trying some Time Travel? Melissa Mayhue does a great series called Daughters of the Glen. Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband (Daughters of the Glen, #1) by Melissa Mayhue is the first in the series. This series has been a 5 star for me.

message 18: by Annie~Marie (new)

Annie~Marie | 16 comments How spooky that you've recommended this Alba (0; My sister gave me Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband (Daughters of the Glen, #1) by Melissa Mayhue to borrow about an hour ago, which she had borrowed from the library, and she really enjoyed it. The book is due to be returned on Saturday so I might give it ago. I'm not sure about Historical and I've never read any Time-Travel, but you never know unless you try!!
