Bill Nominations will be open until May 1 voting until May 10. (typo in my initial post. Sorry about that. I will accept the nominations that came in earlier as well.)

Please read rules below

General rules for Group Reads

1) If your nomination wins - you will be the discussion moderator.

2) One (1) nomination only per person. Neither self-nominations by authors nor nominations by their respective publishers or publicist will be accepted.

3) Do not cheat or manipulate results. It is not acceptable to create fake accounts to nominate books or vote in polls and it is not acceptable to invite people to the site for the sole purpose of nominating a book or voting for a book in a poll. It is not acceptable to ask for votes or influence the poll in any way. If the moderators feel that a group read poll has been manipulated, the book in question will be disqualified. If the moderators feel that the user(s) are fake accounts, these will be reported to Goodreads for further review.

4) Please do not repeat an author we have read in the last year. Check the bookshelves to see the authors we've read in the past year.
http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...

5) For your nomination please include Title, Author and Link (Use the "add book/author" link at the top of the comment box).

Since we are an international group, please check to make sure the book is readily available in more than one format. the last thing we want is to nominate a book that no one can get.

Finally, a word about series - the joy or bane of a mystery reader's life! Please consider whether the book you are nominating would be best read by someone who has read all the previous books in the series or can be enjoyed by someone new to the series too.

Jeanie (birdyseeds) | 382 comments Well, I think it's been a year exactly, so I'll nominate Dennis Lehane's Live by Night.

Bill Ronhummer wrote: "How about Salvation of a Saint by Keigo Higashino.

Looks like a very interesting book, Ronhummer, but it seems to be the 2nd book in the series. Would it be better to nominate the first?

Sorry Slater, but the rules state you can't nominate your own book. I've removed it from the thread. Sorry again. Good luck with it though

Bill Linda wrote: "How about Slice by William Patterson"

I'll keep it as a nomination, Linda, but it might be a book that's difficult for many to get a copy of due to it's relatively recent release. We'll see how the voting goes. :0)

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 10016 comments I'd like to nominate Devil in a Blue Dress by Walter Mosley

Read that a long time ago. Really enjoyed it. Walter Mosley is a great writer.

message 11: by Bill (new)

Bill I'll throw in a nomination as well.. The Water Rat of Wanchai by Ian Hamilton

message 12: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 775 comments I would like to nominate Darker Than Night.

message 13: by Ethan (new)

Ethan I know this is part of a series, but they have been published out of order in the US so I don't think it really matters.

Nemesis - Jo Nesbø

ipsit (ipsit_13) Kiss Me, Judas by Will Christopher Baer byWill Christopher Baer
Dark, rich, sexy, powerful, captivating, and visceral..One of the best reads I had in years.

Julie (juliegreenart) | 6 comments Hunter by thriller author Chris Allen. This is my nomination. Fast-paced, entertaining and brilliant writing. It's the second in the series but stands alone perfectly.

Yes, please! I have this author on my booklist and would love to make the time to finally read these books!

Thanks. Did you read The Devotion of Suspect X. That was her first book. I really enjoyed it.

message 18: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Frost At Christmas

Any of the books will do, because there's no need to read them in the right order. I love these books, because they're not based on technical solutions like DNA, but more on the traditional side of detectives, more of a who dunnit I guess. If you've watched the series already: the inspector in the books is even more fun than on television!

Does the series have to be read in sequence, Jac?

Silken Prey isn't being released until 5/7 so maybe too new for most people to get.

Generally speaking, in the Prey series I think you can pick it up almost anywhere. However, a little knowledge of the cast may be helpful.

message 26: by Bill (new)

Bill Thanks, Jan.

Ed - based on Jan's comment above, could you possibly recommend another of the John Sanford stories?

message 27: by Abby (new)

Ryan Bracha (ryanbracha) | 5 comments I nominate The Origins of Disgust, Self-Hatred, and Hostility by Ken Leek, it's an insane trip through the sleazy underworld of Southern California, not for the faint hearted.

message 32: by Scott (last edited May 07, 2013 03:10PM) (new)

Scott Brazil Alright, I'll be the guy to do it...Dan Brown's newest novel, Inferno, will be released one week from today, so let's go ahead and nominate it since a lot of people (myself included) will be reading it. I just hope it is better than the Lost Symbol.

Word. The free sample is promising in my opinion.

Just click on the Bookshelf (top right of the home page. When you get to the bookshelf, click on 'group-read-winner' and you'll hav a list of the books we've read each month. Hope that helps.

of course, I could have just posted the link again and maybe it might work this time.. http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...

I've been reading
Christine Falls, which I belive is the first in the series which introduces Quirke. I think A Death in Summer is the fourth book in the series.

There will be links on the top right side of the group's pages. Click on the one that says Polls and then select the poll for the June read. Hope this helps, and welcome to the group!
Norene
Nocturne, Opus 1 Sea Foam by Norene Moskalski

message 42: by Bill (new)

Bill Charles - I'll set up the poll in the next couple of days and send out an email announcing when it's ready.

message 43: by Keith (new)

Keith Nixon | 2 comments I'd like to suggest Tomorrow's Chip Paper (Strangers Are Just Friends You Haven't Killed Yet #2) by Ryan Bracha

Bonkers read

message 44: by Bill (new)

Bill Keith - Mightn't it be better to nominate the first book in the series? Also, since this just came out in April, it might be difficult for most of our members to get access.

message 45: by Bill (last edited May 09, 2013 07:38AM) (new)

Bill I will set the poll up shortly. I just want to let you know that I won't be including the following -

Silken Prey by John Sandford (sorry, but it's just too new and won't be available to all our members. Sorry, Ed, but maybe wait a bit with it.

Eden by David Holley. Sorry, Abby. The synopsis sounds interesting but I'm making a judgement call her that it doesn't really fit in to the Mystery, Thriller category. It's more Sci Fi.

The Origins of Disgust, Self-Hatred, and Hostility - Ryan, it looks very interesting, but once again, checking out its availability, only in paperback, I think it will be a bit too hard for our members to access. Sorry.

Tomorrow's Chip Paper - Keith, another that's been released just a bit too recently to make it easily accessible by our members.

Thank you all for your nominations. I hope you still find enough interesting reads to vote for.

message 46: by Bill (new)

Bill The winners for this next Group Read are Case Histories by Kate Atkinson and The Bone Garden by Tess Gerritsen. Congratulations. Threads for both books will be opened on 15 May.
