Chelyne (chelynehasim) | 12 comments What does everyone think about Ansel Elgort as Augustus? Personally, I feel that he looks nothing like Augustus, but then again John seems so excited about having him onboard and we gotta trust the author, so I'm trying to keep an open mind. I just need time to accept the casting decisions. (Can't guarantee it'll be a short time though). Thoughts?

Chelyne (chelynehasim) | 12 comments I'm okay with Shailene Woodley, looks-wise. I can envision her as Hazel.

I agree with you. Ansel Elgort is not the Augustus I had in mind. but I didn't agree with Shailene as Hazel either before, after a while I start feeling okay about it. I hope it'll be the same with Ansel.

Chelyne (chelynehasim) | 12 comments Yeah, the fact that both actors love the book is a big comfort to me, I must say.

message 5: by Milla (new)

Milla | 3 comments Is It official that Ansel will play Augustus? I couldn't find the full cast, all I found was the Shailene playing Hazel news, and did John talk about it? in wich video? am confused over here :s

By the way Shailene seems a legit choice for hazel, I can picture her, I can see the resemblance, I guess, she has the benefit of the doubt, as for Ansel, I am just not convinced, I agree with you all, He just doesn't look anything Like Augustus...

John talks it about in this one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SA_ZX...

And I think he also mentioned it in a Swoodilypoopers video.

Milla | 3 comments I found some news on justjared, but it only says that Ansel has been offered the role, nothing is sure thoug, but hey! John seels excited about the whole thing, so I am sure it's for the best! I hope we could get some official news soon !

You're right it's absolutley official, John just mentioned it in his latest video, yeah absolutley we should just trust his judgement and hope it turns out Okay!

Ashley Wallis (ashleydwallis) I commented on the subject in my wordpress post.

GAAHHAHAHH. I really hope Ansel does justice to Augustus, from his pics on Google, he looks more like a model than hot guy. Top of my list (and Tumblr's) is Joshua Anthony Brand for Augustus, but I think Shaliene is cool. I think Evan Peters should be Isaac. And Emily Mortimer (or Tilda Swinton) should be Hazel's mom.

message 11: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Tjaden | 1 comments I'm really excited for the movie but I also questioned the casting, but I did the same thing for the casting of Gale and Peeta for the Hunger Games movie and I ended up loving them. I trust John so I'm keeping an open mind. I just hope they don't screw it up. Fingers crossed!

message 12: by Ivy (new)

Ivy (ivyrainereads) One thing I do possibly detest about the TFIOS movie is that I feel that I only have the options to watch TFIOS or Divergent on account of the fact the Shailene and Ansel play siblings in Divergent then 'lovers' in TFIOS.

Kaitlyn Kilby | 4 comments Mmm incest

message 14: by Tilly (new)

Tilly (tillzyyy) I'm really looking forward to the film but at the same time I'm really worried it won't be brilliant! Nothing can put me off the book but it will annoy me if people read the book just because they like the film!

message 15: by Chelyne (new)

Chelyne (chelynehasim) | 12 comments Everything looks amazing so far. Can't wait for the movie. Shai looks like such a Hazel it's beautiful. Ansel also is starting to look more Augustus-y to me - maybe I'm just accommodated to the fact that he's playing Augustus.

message 16: by Mikayla (new)

Mikayla Patel I'm so excited to see TFIOS! When I found out they were making a movie I was more than a little worried that they would make it completely different from the book and/or not do the book justice. However, after watching the adds and several vlog brothers videos where john green himself said that he loves the movie, I'm pretty excited and confident that it will be awesome!!

message 17: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Blackburn (onlyabookaway) | 9 comments I know we've sort of moved on from the casting decisions but I really like shaliene and ansel but I think its because I've seen how excited john is too actually have him play the part. Also I love how they're using real cancer survivors as the support group its adorable and makes the whole idea of the book mean something as a movie now. One thing I don't like is the person playing Isaac and its just because I didn't visualize Isaac to look like he did

message 18: by Agus (new)

Agus | 6 comments When I read the book and found out there was going to be a movie, I was a bit worried about how it might be. The book is so special to me that I didn't want it to be ruined, but after seeing John so exited about it, I think it's gonna be amazing. Besides I love the cast, I still have some dobuts about Shai but John loves her as Hazel, so I'll trust him. DFTBA!

monique - persephone (cakes-lollies) | 7 comments Really? He is exactly how I envisioned Isaac. Ansel was a bit iffy with me at first but once a saw the previews I agreed he was perfect.

message 20: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Blackburn (onlyabookaway) | 9 comments I kinda pictured Isaac with strawberry blonde hair and obviously the actor (can't remember his name sorry) has browny black hair so he didn't match my image. I love Ansel as Augustus just because he matches his personality as close as humanly possible

message 21: by Francesca (new)

Francesca D'Arrigo (arisefairsun) | 6 comments I just hate the fact that Ansel doesn't have blue eyes ç.ç That meant a lot to me, the whole thing that Water is both in Augustus' name and in himself, and the metaphor (which is really appropriate, considering the character) about water keeping Hazel alive and killing her at the same time

message 22: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Blackburn (onlyabookaway) | 9 comments Yeah the whole eye thing was a blue because the metaphor including blue being water which was keeping her alive but killing her too, is one of my favorite quotes from the book so I understand why people disagree/disapprove of Ansel but I think, putting the eye color aside, Ansel is a good resemblance of Augustus

message 23: by Francesca (new)

Francesca D'Arrigo (arisefairsun) | 6 comments Yeh, apart from the eye colour, I really really like him. He didn't convince me at first, but then when the trailer came out, I was totally sold!

message 24: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Blackburn (onlyabookaway) | 9 comments Me too I'd never heard of Ansel until tfios and divergent so i was unsure and wasn't fully on board with him playing Augustus but then the trailer was like okay I need a one way ticket because I'm sold xD

message 25: by Anna (new)

Anna Lembke | 5 comments I really do like Ansel's looks, but the fact is, he just isn't a very good actor. He seems extremely awkward when he is reciting his lines, and Shailene seems too silly to play Hazel correctly.

message 29: by Annamarie (new)

Annamarie (ilovebooks143) I liked the movie a lot and it was really cute!!! They just left out some parts I liked like the ending to it. What are your thought on the movie.

message 30: by Francesca (new)

Francesca D'Arrigo (arisefairsun) | 6 comments I was a bit disappointed with one of my favourite scenes, the romantic dinner in Amsterdam.. It just wasn't like I imagined it! Mostly because the scene was supposed to be set outdoors, with the trees and the flower petals and the canal...and it wasn't. I must admit though, that I appreciated the presence of those trees with some pretty fairy lights wrapped around them, which I suppose are a reference to the white petals floating around Hazel and Gus in the book

message 31: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 2 comments I think they did a really fabulous job with turning the book into a movie. I mean, most of us agree that TFiOS is an unflawed work of genius, right? But it wouldn't work if exact translated into a movie. It's like languages. It wasn't coordinated just to readers or Nerdfighteria, but I felt like we could still be satisfied with the movie, regardless. I loved the cast, and for some reason, seeing Hazel's relationship with her parents in the movie was better than in the book for me. I have no idea why though lol. I haven't spoken to anyone who wholly disliked the movie yet.

message 32: by Francesca (new)

Francesca D'Arrigo (arisefairsun) | 6 comments I agree! Overall, it was really really good. There were some amazing scenes in the book that didn't work as good in the movie, but were still pretty good. Like the cigarette/metaphor scene, I feel like it was a bit weird and it made Gus look even more pretentious in the movie than it did in the book, but it was still good. There were some amazing details, like Hazel's mismatching underwear, the colour of Monica's car, etc

message 33: by Abby (new)

Abby | 12 comments I loved it but there was one thing that really bugged me that there was not a Caroline. I mean other wise it was amazing there were lines directly from the book and everything.

message 34: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 2 comments Well, Caroline was never a huge part of the plotline, and we've all learned the hard way that things have to be cut out of books when transferring to movies... I think that if something had to be cut out, Caroline was a good choice.

✿.Ⓐⓟⓞⓞⓡⓥⓐ.✿ (apoorvak) | 9 comments The only thing I missed was the constellations quote. My favorite quote was left out of the movie :/ Overall I really loved it though. TNBOS was awesome!

message 36: by Abby (new)

Abby | 12 comments I personally feel that Caroline was a bigger part of the plot than many people do because she was the reason that Augustus stared at Hazel. She was the reason Hazel said she was a grenade. Those a re two really important parts of the book and without them I don't think there really would have been the same book at all.

message 37: by Katie (new)

Katie Clements (elviemay) | 2 comments Overall I really liked it. Yes, there were bits that were cut out which was a bit disappointing, but the stuff that was there and the acting I think really made up for it. The Gus scene in the car was so incredibly powerful.

message 38: by Darby (new)

Darby | 13 comments I think I'm the only person who hasn't seen it. My little sisters seen it twice, my mother has seen it, my grouchy friend and his girlfriend saw it, and my 76 year old grandmother has seen it. None of these people wish to see it again because it was too distressing for them so I'm probably not getting to watch it -__- however I really really want to. I read the thing in about 2 hours and re started it the next day.

message 39: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Schneider (madamemelli) Darby: I went alone into the cinema. For the first time I didn't care about others or what others think that I am watching a movie alone.
And it was a very great idea! I loved it very much and the movie adaption is really good. The only thing I was confused about was her swing. In the movie no explanation about why it was suddenly gone (I don't think that is a "spoiler" as you read the book^^
