Julia (juliace) Hope it's ok that I added a new topic to this folder. One of my fave authors is Kristin Hannah, which I consider part of the chick-lit genre. Is anyone else a fan of KH or have any other authers they like to read or a book to recommend?

BattyKat (prosserkat) I just read Firefly Lane a little while ago in prep for her newest,Fly Away that is scheduled in another group. I haven't gotten the new one yet, tho.

Loved Firefly Lane!! I like the way she writes.

Julia (juliace) Hi Kat - my fave book by her is Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah . Make sure you have tissues if you read.

message 4: by BattyKat (new)

BattyKat (prosserkat) Oh I had plenty of tears for Lane. Hell, I'm reading Insomnia right now, and last night, there was something more about his wife dying and even tho I read this years and years ago, anything to do with the process of dying of cancer... just kills me now.

OH. (view spoiler)

So, when I read that, I bawl. Very unsightly.

Julia (juliace) Kat - Insomnia & Fly Away are both on my TR shelf. I'm afraid to read Fly Away right now. Firefly Lane had me sobbing when I read it. Maybe in a couple of months.

BattyKat (prosserkat) I have to say, I am sick to death (ha!) of crying when I read!!

I hope one of the books I have to read next month will NOT be a crier! Just one!

message 7: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I LOVE LOVE LOVE a book that makes me cry or laugh out loud.

message 8: by BattyKat (new)

BattyKat (prosserkat) Both make for great books (cuz if you're not FEELING it, what's the point of reading it?!) but I've cried waaaayyyy too much in the past few months.

My mom(s) died 3 and 4 years ago, but it still hurts when I read things like in these books.

message 9: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I'm really sorry to hear about your Mom. We lost my uncle 4 yrs ago, he was a 2nd father to me and it still hurts; and we just found out the my cousin (his son) has a rare aggressive abdominal CA and his dr's have given him 12-18 months.
Sorry to drop all that on you when we barely know each other.

message 10: by BattyKat (new)

BattyKat (prosserkat) Oh, that's nothing. I freely talk about the death of both my moms. Well, at least until I can't see to type anymore, thru the tears.

Just wait till I rant about child molesters.

Veronica (veraj121) | 271 comments I never read any of her books. But I just purchased Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah . I will give her a try

message 13: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) Hi Veronica - I think she's great. I've read almost all of her books and love them. Do you have a fave author in this genre?

message 14: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (veraj121) | 271 comments Its funny. I like chick lit. No, I love chick lit. LOL! But I don't have a favorite author. And I am always open to read any recommendations.

Oh.. I love Emily Giffin.

What do you consider chick lit?

message 15: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I've read all of Emily Giffin books and liked them all. My favorite was Where We Belong.

My definition of chick-lit is a woman as the main, and stories that focus more relationship, health, job, everyday issues. Sorry that's so vauge.

I read so many of these books

VickiLee Am I the only person who dislikes the term "chick lit"? It seems to diminish a perfectly legitimate and much loved type of literature. Giving it that title suggests it is something men would never condescend to read because the main character is female. No criticism, just an honest observation and a feeling that your reading choices should be honoured as valuable.
