I think it is wrong. Unless it is a certain type of art that portrays naked people, but if it is purely out of...enjoyment of it then I think it is wrong.

Can you elaborate? I'm genuinely curious.

Agreed.
Agreed.
"It's not wrong" - especially for guys I think. Some of my guy friends won't even deny that they watch porn.I guess for me it isn't wrong too, but I had an experience like Lia's. My prof (in psychology) made us watch 'the diary of a nymphomaniac' (french movie, I think)- not sure if that's the title. It was so awkward. I didn't find it entertaining. If not for the story, which could be told without the revealing scenes, it wouldn't look like a movie to me, just a compilation of dirty stuffs. All in all, I don't find porn worthy to watch.
I dont agree with the fact that the making of pornography (for the most part) isn't very ethical for the people being taped, and that it could send wrong messages to people (younger kids especially. But I dont think there's anything inherently wrong with watching it. I wouldnt judge anyone because of it.

Yeah, especially the wrong messages thing.
Yeah, especially the wrong messages thing.
I don't think pornography is wrong. But what is odd is this. Pay a girl for sex, and its illegal. Pay a girl for sex, tape the sex and sell it, and its 100% legal. Almost like a loophole in prostitution laws.
Strange huh?

Seriously, people like you are the problem. "Men are pigs, they watch porn! Men degrade women! The most of male population watches porn!!"
People who think being sexist towards men is alright really pisses me off.

I agree but show me some statistics of the demographics of who watches it.
H99 wrote: "Look, I don't like any kind of sexism, but I'm saying that most men do see porn at some time in their lives. I'm NOT saying that the majority watch it often. ""Oh, and I'm just saying, most women go inside a kitchen some point in their life!"
Lets not generalize here.

Thanks!
@H99Well the only "wrong" thing about porn is the messages people take from it and the people being taped (if it is forced). So what's the solution for it? Ethical porn?
I do feel bad for those who make porn videos for the money though. I guess some people might enjoy it, but for those who do it out of desperation...
I think that when it comes down to it, things like sex are meant to be intimate and only shared between the two partners involved so I would rather have nothing to do with pornography. That being said, I think it is someone's personal choice if they choose to participate in something like that or even watch it. Who am I to judge?
i don't know why the word "porno" create so much of tension. if someone is ready to be taped and watched his/her private moments then what is the big deal , sex is just biological need and we all do need it and if porno give someone joy, than it is okey
I have personally nothing against pornography. But I do not watch it either. If anyone is interested in it ok well whatever, its your life do whatever you want. But yeah I have a friend who is nurse by profession, she makes it her goal to describe me whatever she watches , I have to literally shout at her to say to stop it, its gross. But one thing she said shook me to core. She said there are few videos where the age of girls are less than 16 . I mean seriously ? That's just I don't even know what to say. If I ever found my brother's or for heaven sake my dad watching such stuff I don't think I can look at them with respect again. There are people out there who like watching where girl is underage or it has something connecting to force, i.e. rape. She told me there are those kind of videos too. And if one prefer there kind of porn then Those are the people who are threats to our society.
Watching pornography is no issue but what are the preferences is what matters.
To each their own. It's not for me but whatever people like is their business. This is assuming the porn is completely legal. Society has taboos against things like cannibalism and then they just get silly.

i agree with you ,even i hate those BDSM and rape scenes, legal and safe porno is better and even it give someone a job
Maybe as a guy I have a bias, but I dont see anything wrong with it. I bet 99% of internet users have looked at a porn vid/image at least once.
I haven't been on Goodreads much lately but after starting a show called 30 Rock I started thinking about this debate. When I commented on this the first time I didn't know that a lot of porn advocates things like prostitution or sexism or rape, etc. Obviously not all porn is bad, but like almost everything, there are bad parts.
But anyways, I disagree with anyone mentioning anything about it being more okay for guys to watch pornography than girls. Why is it more okay?

I agree. It is considered more okay only because our sexist society tend to police women's behavior more heavily.

Pornography is as old as time. Human beings have always been very visual inspired. I see it as a form of Art, another source of human labour and receptacle of effort and energy otherwise put to waste (and therefore put to undesirable bevaviour, such as violence) rather than something to be banished and condemned.
I'm going to include religious facts here. You have been warned. In Islam, we practise 'save sex' or 'sex after marriage rather than 'safe sex'. Anything that stimulates our sexual sensation is sinful. Inevitably, deliberate masturbation is sinful. Watching porn is sinful because it leads to masturbation, I suppose.
Religion aside, I watched SVU and saw the increase of pornography views decreased the rape crime rate. I'm not sure if it's not fiction, but if it's not, I'm not sure if the source is legit.
However, I can't help but pity the girls or guys who have to involve in the video to have money. In that aspect, I see the bad side of pornography.
Yazid (Ciel) wrote: "However, I can't help but pity the girls or guys who have to involve in the video to have money. In that aspect, I see the bad side of pornography." I agree with that. I think ultimately it can only be resolved through empowering marginalized ppl and a more equitable distribution of wealth.
