You are the one who nominated it...what did you like about it?

I did really enjoy the way this book manipulated reader expectations, setting things up so you felt like it was a hunger games type post-apocalypse science fiction. The narrator's voice was very interesting to me. I liked how the book was very simple and accessible on one level, but definitely had depth and commentary on contemporary issues too.

Such hard questions! Haha.

I liked the surprise element, when you finally figure out exactly what is going on and the time frame of the story. The book just struck me overall as not your run of the mill dystopia, very readable with a unique narrator voice.

Yeah, this was brilliantly weird. Visceral and difficult to read.

Emily (e_dagg) I skimmed it for a while in the middle because it didn't seem like anything new, then when "the big twist" was revealed, I had to go back and read it sincerely. It was uncomfortable reading in places, which is good, because it makes readers think.

Danielle (drdspice) | 20 comments This is the first truly Printz-worthy book I've read all year: the learning disabled narrator who is far cleverer than anyone (but his best friend and grandfather) give him credit for, the historical and foreign setting, and of course how literary it is. I think this book will yield a lot of thoughtful discussion.
