Do we want to stay with color for a name...

I was think something with the color yellow for the name but the only thing that keeps coming to mind is Mellow Yellow and I don't think that's what we're looking for but we don't have to use the color if someone has something better.

Hello everyone can't wait to get to know all of u too. I don't care to be captain either. In between work an kids I'm lucky to find time to read. But I make it. Not to fond of yellow,will try an think of something after work. Can't wait for the first item to be called.

I'm Jennifer and I'm from Ohio. I'm a stay-at-home wife and mother (but my one and only child is 18 and will be graduating high school in May, so I'm not doing as much mothering). Needless to say, I have lots of free time so if you need anything at any time feel free to pm me.

This is my first time playing so I'm quite happy for Jennifer to take the reins and be our fearless leader.

Not a fanof yellow either but at least its not orange... and the only yellow object I can think of is a submarine so maybe be could be the Yellow Submarine Team?

Found another possible name (thank you Google) that made me laugh - The Fightin' Canaries.

I like 'The Fightin' Canaries' very funny. With a name like that we will install fear into the hearts of everyone :)

An a little more about me, I live in New Mexico, have two boys, one 8 an one will be 13 in a month. Have a full time job, witch most of my reading time is on my lunch hour. An just so u know me an Dawn (kat-n-hat) are sisters. We don't leave near each other so this is how we do thing together.

My sister is in Florida and we probably talk to each other more now than we did when we lived in the same house (Thanks to the internet). She's not a reader though so we use Facebook and the like.

Are you the older or younger sister?

How do we want to do things...my team last time tried to get the harder items early and do a little planning on what we claimed (kind of keep things as even as possible). I'm not suggesting we all have to claim the same thing every week just keeping in mind what others have claimed. As to the new bonus item twist the main goal is to finish before the week is up if you can't it's not a problem. Melissa and Dusty if you have any insights from past games played please let us know. Lauren you stated that you haven't played before if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

She's older but my kids are older. We didn't talk much after she moved out. She got me in to goodreads a little over a year ago. An we've talked a lot more since then. Its been nice and fun.

I try for the harder ones first an keep an eye on what everyone else on the team finds. If most of the team gets a item I don't have I try an find it as soon as I can to get the point. Not sure on the bonus items yet.

Some info about me - I live in a suburb of Chicago. I work full time. My son plays travel basketball that takes up our weekends at this time. I have a son 13 and a daughter 11 (my profile pic is them a couple of years ago). Getting into the tween/teen years.....HELP ME!! Just kidding but we are getting lots of angst and emotion on/off at our house.

Bonus Question ~ are these items going to be called each week along with the item to claim??

Last time around we kept a spreadsheet and as items got closer to having all on team to claim we put a message on who was left for us to claim it.

Example: everyone but I have claimed but table
Dusty and I need coffee
Dusty and Lauren need horse
Jennifer and I need bug
Lauren and Jennifer need garage.

Last time - either Nikita(captain) or I would put a message on here stating who needed what item for us to claim it that week usually Wed or Thurs so you would know what to look for...it seemed to work out well...granted I don't remember what team won - I don't think it was ours,lol BUT it was tons of fun!!


What are we considering the hard items....we could try to knock them off within the next couple of weeks. Granted I already have a book I want to read this Friday if the "right" word gets called ~ once I figure out how that

Hi Lauren ~ It's entirely possible we have been on a GR Words w/Friends team ~ that is another fun challenge too! All these challenges keep adding to my TBR pile - I just keep hearing ....'thud' and another book got added,LOL

I do plan on helping everyone keep track just like you said.

One bonus item will be called each week and now that I look at it I think the bonus items look tougher than the regular items.

Do bonus items have to be "claimed" or you just get an extra point for that week ....although I know we are all a competitive group when it comes to winning as I see lots of familiar faces/names on all of the teams!!

The bonus word doesn't have to be claimed. It is worth two points if all of us claim our items before the next item is called and if only 2 or 3 of us claim it's worth one point.

Seeing the number of post, it looks like I'm the only one in a different time zone.

I'm originally from South Africa but my family emigrated to Israel when I was 9, and it is currently 12:57 pm here so there is at least an 8 hour difference between us.

I'm a English lit lecturer and I work at a local college three times a week and commute to another college 2 hours away twice a week - plenty of time to listen to audiobooks that way

It is so great that you get to keep in touch with your sister on Goodreads, Dusty.

My brother reads but he is dyslexic and takes a while for him to get through a book so he's not on GR. He and my sister-in-law live in Belguim so we mainly talk on Skype - we are pretty close so it is difficult now that he lives so far away.

I know what you mean. I love these team challenges because they help me work on books I've had on my TBR for a while but they also have me adding books. The best I can hope for is some kind of balance between those going on and those coming off.

Thanks for the offer to answer any questions, I may have many as the game progresses.

As I understand it, every week a word is called along with a bonus word, and we have to read a book that has these two words in them by the time the next word is called - although the bonus word is optional.

In addition we can find three other words, each belong to one of the categories other than the category of the word of the week - right? Do we get points for each of those other non-WOW words?

What happens if one of the words we find and use in week #1 is then called as WOW in week #4- do we lost that point?

You are correct about also claiming the three other items. Yes, we get a point for those items but not until everyone has claimed the item.

If an item is called that you've already claimed that item essentially becomes null and void and you have to search for the item again.

Let's take one last vote on names and then I'll let Dawn know who we are :)

In the beginning I think we can just pick what we want and then starting towards the middle I'll start doing..."So-and-so needs this and so-and-so needs that.
