Book Snob

Hahaha I can be picky like that sometime but I will occasionally rea something that I wouldn't normally read.
If it has words in it, I'll read it. Granted when I'm browsing the bookstore, usually the cover art will be the first thing to catch my attention. I have often purchased books just because I liked the cover art. I'm NOT a fan of movie tie-in covers typically. Give me the original cover please, especially since I probably read it long before it became popular enough to be made into a movie. When I was a kid my parents took me and my brother to the bookstore every two weeks and they would usually buy us one book, but sometimes I could talk them into two. That started my habit of looking for the thickest books on the shelf. If it was going to be two weeks before I could come back, I wanted a book that I wasn't going to finish reading in an hour!
I didn't read The Hunger Games for a long time because of the hype, but I finally gave in and I'm glad I did because I loved them.
I'm guessing I'm a snob I have fazes I go through years ago I read V.C. Andrews I have all of them then there was Dean Koontz and then everyone was talking about a twilight movie and I saw it than read the books and went on a whole vampire faze which turned to paranormal then I got on GR and everyone got me started on hunger games and divergent so we know where this is leading rightThe cover is what gets me if the cover looks like a child's book I don't even pick it up
I can be a snob in the sense that I don't like to "waste my time" on a book with less than a 4 star GR rating. 3.8 is as low as I will (usually) go, no matter what I have heard (only exception is if it is part of a series). And I enjoy pretty covers too. I do most of my reading on a Kindle and I get really grumpy when it downloads with a plain text cover instead of the normal pretty cover. When I used to purchase books I would hate buying "big" books that they sometimes sell as the first release, then the normal size ones would come later. It used to annoy me if I had a series of books that weren't all the same size and design.
I'm not really much of a book snob. My only really big peeve with a book is if it has a lot of errors. If there are lots of errors in the first few pages, I put it down. I do check out people's reviews, though. If it has a lot of bad reviews, I will likely skip it over. However, if it only has a couple of reviews or none at all, I might check it out.
I've started reading a lot of self published stuff on my kindle. And don't get me wrong, I love that people are able to get their work out there for others to see in a whole new way than in the past. One of my dearest friends (also a memember of this group) has several ebooks and they are great. However, what I cannot stand is reading a self published work that has not been edited. Punctuation. Spelling. Just plain ol' bad grammar. Drives me a little nuts.
I have a tendancy to judge books by their covers! The cover plays a big part, which isn't always the best. But I just can't help it!
I do judge books by their covers. That's the most common tendency. Then I read the most famous ones about which ppl are talking all the time . Once I gambled by buying Fallen series, nobody recommended it to me, no one was talking about it and I wasn't on GR back then. And turned out I really liked it. But that was the only case. And yeah I don't read so thin books that I can finish it off in at most 45 mins. Most self help books are thin. Fortunately I never required one. I also read reviews, check out the ratings and after joining GR recommendations also help. Guess that's all.
like Cindy said, if it has words in it, I'll read it. I'm a curious [book] cat. if there's hype about a book, I'll read it to see what the hype. about. if there's no word about a book, I'll read it just because. if I like the cover or no. if I like the title or the blurb. if it gets a lot of negative reviews.
So how I judge a book,in order of importance:1)Reviews and other opinions: If someone whose opinion I trust recommend a book for me or/and I see good reviews in GR I will read it inspite of the cover.
2)Cover: On the other hand if I am not looking for something in particular to read , cover is very important because when you are browsing for books, it's the image on the frond that catches your eye..And of course it says a great deal for how much work they put on it!I am very disappointed when I read a book that I love and I think that judging by the cover I wouldn't read it in the first place , if somebody else haven't recommended to me!
I am a bit of a book snob, in a way.Firstly, the book has to have an interesting cover or one that seems like something I'd enjoy reading. Like....
I know that's a lot!
But I won't read books with boring covers because I won't even think about going near them. Like...
To be perfectly honest, that's it. :)
I am definitely a book snob. When ever anyone suggest anything ( a book) I say " oh that sounds cool" but I know all never read it
Yup. I won't pick out a book with an ugly cover, that describes the girl as "beautiful but doesn't know it," or that admits to having a love triangle. I won't try a book by an unfamiliar author unless the topic is nearly irresistible. There are certain reviewers on goodreads whose recommendations I intentionally avoid. Chances are, lately, if it's popular & has a sexy hot love interest, I'm going to hate it.

I also like to judge the cover, title, blurb and even internal font - I'm not a big fan of unusual fonts or fonts like Calibri and Verdana.
The cover for me shows how much work was put into the book - something creative like
As for the blurb, I simply like to see what the book is about - and usually read any recs. If I see something from one of my favourite authors, or Kirkus/PW, I'm much more likely to read then if the recs are from an author whose books I dislike, have not heard of or no recs at all
