Hi Maurine,We used to do group reads, but they kind of fizzled out.
I would love to start doing them again. Would you be interested in doing a book discussion even if there were just a few of us?
Is anyone else interested in starting a monthly group read?
I would love to do a monthly group read here! I live in an area where there are not a lot of LDS books available to me, and my book buying budget is pretty much $0, but if we choose the book for the month far enough in advance, I can request it through interlibrary loan. :)
Hi Beth!Absolutely I would! Plus I have some LDS friends out here who might be interested in joining in on the discussion as well! What book should we read?
Hi Kate!
I'm in your same shoes... I need plenty of notice before I can commit to reading a book... BUT I'm SO excited about being able to discuss it with someone else who is reading it at the same time! What book should we start with?
I'm in the same position as Kate. I don't have the money to buy a lot of books, so I have to depend on the library. Unfortunately, our library doesn't have most LDS books, even through interlibrary loan.
As far as what book to read, we could do it two ways. We could have everyone nominate books, then narrow it down if needed, then vote; or we could have one person suggest, say, three books, and pick between them. What sounds best?

This group hasn't been around very long, so we need to think about what we will do with it.
I might be listening to a book on my MP3 player, with several books on my Kindle, then have a physical book, and a book started on CD's. It sounds crazy, but it works for me. I listen to books in the car, and while I am working, I listen on my MP3 player. I take my Kindle with me to the YMCA, to doctors appointments, etc. I used to think I didn't have time to read any more, when I had my kids. Then I started to take a book along, when I picked my kids up at school. I would have ten to fifteen minutes to read while I waited. Now I just find unusual times to read or listen to books.

I have never borrowed from any library, except our local one.
One of the reasons I started my own book group was to have discussions, I couldn't find any groups that had the same interests and actually held discussions. I like reading books with HEAs and it seemed like a lot of the book clubs i was invited to were more drama and serious stuff. We like happy books and happy endings. What we do in our group is have a monthly poll with 4-5 book ideas that the members vote on. I usually announce the winner around the first of each month and then we hold the discussion on the 20th of every month. We've only been around for a few months, but so far this system seems to be working well.
We usually try and choose inexpensive books, or kindle freebies. I'll sometimes nominate a $10 kindle book if its a really good one.
I, too am interested in this group becoming more interactive. I would love group book discussions and a book of the month would be GREAT!

I simply do a search for a book in my library's online catalog, and if they don't have it, they'll ask me if I want to search for it in the other libraries in the province. Not sure how it would for you where you live, but good luck! :)
As far as choosing books to read each month, an Amish fiction lovers book club that I belong to here on GoodReads has nominations open from the 1st to the 14th of the previous month (so, right now, we're taking nominations for June's picks). Once those nominations have been submitted, however many nominations have been made (and if a book is nominated twice, it gets counted twice) are entered into random.org and it selects a random number and whichever numbered nomination that was gets read for the coming month. Clear as mud? LOL
Those sound like great ideas for nominating the book! I like the idea of everyone submitting their nominations and then letting random.org choose the winner! That sounds easy enough! SO... the big question is: WHO do we submit our nominations to??? Who wants to head this up? NOT IT!! LOL
I'll do it. Unless someone else wants to. I'll start a thread. To clarify, do we each get one nomination? Could we modify it to the 1st thru the 10th to give people more time to find the book?
Sounds good! I would say that since there aren't many people participating (at least to start) we should nominate 2-3 books each, improving the chances of us choosing the same books... Just my opinion... Yay! This should be fun!
What if we did one nomination, and then up to two (for lack of a better word) "second's?"So we could pick three, but two of them would have to be someone else's nomination.
Or not. Let me know what you think.
Just to clarify...is this a group read of clean books with just us LDS ladies, or is it a group read of LDS books only?
Thanks Beth for stepping up to the helm. I'm excited to see what books everyone comes up with! You'll send us a link to the thread? Or will it just show up if we're members?

How does it work? Where do I start?
I see at least 5 books listed as "currently reading" ... really??? ALL 5? At once? Cuz I'm lucky if I can read one! LOL
When do we talk about the books that we're reading? And where?
Is there a chance that we can get together in a live chat room and talk about our readings?
Is there a place that we introduce ourselves and our backgrounds?
Thanks for helping!
