Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Yep, Magazines Junkies :O) This is a topic, after thinking about it, would be fantastic as well. While standing in Barnes & Nobles looking at the magazine rack, I noticed just how many magazines were ones full of short stories and such. Some amazing short stories I should say. Just to name a few titles, Twilight Zone, Cemetery Dance, Fantasty, and Writers Digest. Plus, I don't know if any of you guys know but, there are some amazing short pieces done for Playboy as well which include authors as well known as Stephen King.
So does this thread only include magazines with short stories? No not really. I think any magazine that members read that they have read an amazing article that they would like to share with the rest of the members, I believe that would be welcome in here as well. Have fun in here and share links to these mags. So much work is done to publish these magazines so they should be recognized within this group.
Enjoy :O)

I have a few favorite mags. I love Writers Digest. Reading work by new authors is always fun and I have read things in that magazine that have put a fresh spin on things.
Cemetery Dance, cause they have some of the greatest horror authors attached to that fine book.
Twilight Zone, not sure if it's still printed but my father used to get these and I just devoured the stories in those.
And of coarse Playboy, cause, yeah there are some beautiful women in there but there publishers hunt down THE most interesting articles with mind blowing topics, their techy/ new gadgets section makes me run to my wife saying "I want that!" , the comics are funny, the interviews are layed back feeling, and the short fiction is top notch.
I also like in the mag section, at Barnes & Nobles, the smaller press books/mags that are full of short fiction. There are too many of them to list.

Well, I hope you all enjoy this section and have fun commenting and recommending stuff here.

Sam Arnold (samharnold) Anyone know any good book magazines with reviews and recommendations in.

message 3: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I think there is a magazine out called Publishers Weekly that might have something like that. I always enjoyed Writers Digest for all the great short stories and reading the contest winners is always a fun ride :o) Barnes & Nobles, depending on which one you go to usually has a great variety of these types of magazines. I used to get one called Midnight Zoo which was upcoming fantasy/scifi/horror authors. You should just pop around on Amazon or B&N's sites sometime and browse what they have to offer.

Locus is excellent. Reviews SF/F and some horror.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments is Locus an online only or do they have a printed version too?

Locus's website is ancillary. The actual magazine has all the reviews, interviews, and columns. You can get it in print or in ePub, Mobi, or PDF versions. I've subscribed to Locus for probably 10 years now.

Angie | 225 comments I get a couple of on line mags and one them is Zombie Guide Magazine. Its pretty cool, and they feature short stories by indie authors. There was one in by J Cornell Michel who wrote Jordan's Brains last week. I'll go check the other names, I forget what they are called.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Zombie Guide Magazine? Now that sounds really cool. Do you have a link to the site?
The one thing I used to love checking out was Barnes & Nobles magazine section. They used to get lots of mags full of new writers now they have cut down on so much of it which is sad. Another magazine I used to love was Twilight Zone.
Oh and so awesome we got some people chatting in here. I knew I could snag some great conversation with this topic :O)

Angie | 225 comments I've found another magazine but this one makes the copy's in paper and online. Its good as well, I signed up for a free trail and ended up getting the annual subscription for £20. That's a magazine once a month, and its filled with short horror stories and other stuff as well! So here goes with the link again!

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Wow, thank you for all these awesome online mags you are listing. I visited both sites and they look very interesting. I may even have to sign up for one eventually. Sanitarium looks really good.

Angie | 225 comments I keep coming across them, and I'll sign up to see if they're any good. That Sanitarium one is excellent. Lots of good stories.

I'm pretty sure that's defunct.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments So sad. I wonder how hard it would be to hunt some old copies down...maybe on EBay

I'm sure you could hunt them down for pretty cheap. This was a pretty popular magazine at the time, so I'd imagine there are still a lot of copies floating around.

message 22: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Knowing that they don't make them anymore makes me wonder where the one's my dad used to get went

message 23: by Angie (new)

Angie | 225 comments I've got some more magazines Steven, I've been on the look out for them. The thing is they are on line, I think its probably because they reach more people and its lots cheaper to get out to readers.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments So with the EBay site, do I just type in the Twilight Zone magazines thing into the search? This magazine topic is pretty cool. I am a big fan of magazines like Time, Life, Smithsonian, Popular Mechanics, Fangoria, Starlog, Entertainment, Writers Digest and many more. So much great stuff out there :O)
