I used to know a lot, so ill see what my brain digs up.

Um, some tissues can be repaired by inserting cells of that type. But to insert those cells, they have to grow those cells. They're often taken from babies, but from my understanding it's taken from the embryo. Oftentimes from IVF babies that don't work and stuff, but sometimes it's killing babies.

Thing is, it can possibly cure cancer and blah blah blah. For me it's more depending on where the cells are being taken from, I guess, as what it's being used for. It's a very broad topic.

I think it might only be acceptable if say the mother was aborting the embryo, then it would be ok to use the stem cells as the parent would be aborting it anyway

Stem cells are useful, we often refer to them as being in three stages, totipotency the most useful at this stage the cells are only eight in number and from one of these a whole human being could be formed it is a totipotent cell that could potentially cure any disease. Then there is pluripotent which can form most things but not organs or whole humans (still in embryonic stage). Finally there is multipotent. These are the ones found in our bone marrow these can only make white blood cells.

Stem cell's have the potential to cure any disease. There is of course the ethical implication of where to get these cells from. In most cases its from the excess fertilised cells in In Vitro Fertilisation. I think that is fine as those cells would not be used for anything else.

STEM CELLS ARE DA FUUUUUUTURE.
In possibly ten five years of further research into stem cells:
"OH, YOU HAVE CANCER???? LETS JUST CUT THAT OUT AND PUT SOME FLIPPEN AMAZING STEM CELLS THERE!"
In possibly fifteen years of stem cell research.
"OH, YOUR BABY IS GONNA GET CANCER. LETS JUST MANIPULATE IT'S DNA WITH STEM CELLS TO FIX THAT."
OH HOT DAMN THE FUTURE IS MY JAM.
Now, let's see. Evan mentioned how it has the potential to cure any disease. The key word here is any. That means...
FAT? NOT ANYMORE!

Now you may be thinking, omg, why oh why would anybody not want to research stem cells???
Well, annoying version of myself, it's because the easiest way to extract stem cells is from people like this-

The discarded embryo is filled with stem cells. But, as you can see, there is conflict. (Pro life vs. Pro choice)
But, thank the lordie, there's another, conflict free, way to get stem cells!

You can go and google those ways yourself, I think I've written too much already. I can go on forever in this topic. I probably will do another post soon on this thread but for now I'm out.
