Lit Bug (Foram) Hi, I'm completely new to manga/anime. While researching for feminist cyberpunk for my doctorate, I was told that I needed to understand and read manga/anime too in order to perfectly understand the cyberpunk movement - I came across two websites - mangafox and mangaeden.com and felt that Naruto was one of the more popular mangas there.

What I'm seeking is a few names of some representative manga/anime works through which I may understand cyberpunk and it's background. And in fact any other info you would give to a complete new-comer like me.

I'd be really glad if you folks can help me out. Thanks.

Angie | 225 comments I've been watching quite a lot of anime with my son so does that count? My favourite has to be Darker than Black which is also in comics.

Angie | 225 comments My posts aren't actually answering the initial question but its for Anime/Manta. So here's some more. A lot of Japanese anime from on the TV for example, Monster, is classed as a light novel. I can't decide if this is the same as our Young Adult genre. Does anyone know?

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments So, I'm a big fan of the Vampire Hunter D books and anime. I say books, not manga, cause there are actually 2 different kinds. They do make manga for this title but they also make novels based on this series as well. The author that writes them is considered the Stephen King of Japan and is very good. Both my daughter and son are big time anime & manga fans and have introduced me to an over whelming variety of it. I have noticed there are a lot of books that have come out in the U.S. that are being developed into manga books as well. Witch & Wizard and Maximum Ride are 2 I've seen, and I think I've seen ads for Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz into this medium as well. So what are some other great anime series or manga books that you all read? Please start listing some and give some insight into why you enjoy these titles. What makes them stand out to you?

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments It's not really Manga but feels like it, yet bizarro style. I just finished The Morbidly Obese Ninja by Carlton Mellick III
And had a blast reading it. I highly recommend this title to fans of Manga
