Patrick Baird (beatnikspy) | 3 comments Ah, Gardner Fox. I always thought of Gardner Fox as the floor for pulp writers. If you were a worse writer than Gardner Fox, then you truly were a hack. Not that Gardner Fox was a bad writer, for me, he was just the line below which you didn't want to fall.

Having said that, the story was about par for his output. Moves along smartly, not in the least bit artful, and is imitative of lots of stuff that went before.

Sorry it wasn't much to write home about. I wasn't familiar with the author at all. So I gave it a shot.

Do you have a story that you could recommend for the group to read in June? One about the same length?

Patrick Baird (beatnikspy) | 3 comments Don't get me wrong, that is a very representative tale from Planet Stories. The best thing you could say about Gardner Fox is that he was very competent.

Hmmmmm. How about some "Spicy Adventures?" Pulp master E. Hoffmann Price's "Plunder of Kurdistan." Lotsa slam bang action and plenty of shocking bare thigh and heaving breasts.

I like it. I'll send out the link and use it for our June 2013 group read.

Thanks for the input.
