Goodreads All Sorts discussion

I have to say, I love the chance to have my own little thread that's mine. I don't yet know what I'll share on this, but I might just share my book-ish insights.

For example, I'm currently plodding through The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I say plodding because I'm about 2/5 of the way through the book and I think half of that section should be cut out. I mean, is it really necessary to give me in depth detail on architecture of the time and the entire layout of Paris? It doesn't seem important.

I finished Water for Elephants really early this morning. I was not expecting the ending, but I loved the book. Now I'm just reading some chick lit (Jemima J).

Hi Alyssa! Welcome to the group :-) I'm currently reading by Sarah Addison Allen. This is my fourth book from the same author. I love the author's writing style and how something magical gets entwined in the story.

Hi! I just finished Ender's Game and now I'm jumping back to A Study in Scarlett. I know, I hate reading slow moving books.... Clearly I'm not very patient!

Is Water for Elephants good? I was going to read it but it slipped my mind, what's it about?

I've got no idea. Haven't read it, haven't watched the movie either. But I've heard from friends that its a good read. Here, check it out Water for Elephants Ratings and reviews seems to be good.

The only classic I've read is Little Women and I love it. I should probably give some of the others a try.
I did read "Water For Elephants" and loved it. Have you read any other books by Sara Gruen? As far as I know she has 2 other books out and . Read Riding Lessons first.

I haven't read Water for Elephants but I've seen the movie and enjoyed it (but then again it does have Reese Witherspoon and she can make anything watchable).

book is so much better than the movie. The movie leaves out so much.
The other movie that really didn't live up to it's novel is JODI PIQUOLT'S MY SISTER'S KEEPER. They ruined that ending totally.

Hi Dawn - I think if I had seen the book before reading the book, I would have been ok w/ the ending, but having read the book, I would be upset with any other ending.

Jeez. I am blowing through the chick lit. It's not usually my favorite genre of fiction, but it's nice to have some fluffy books to go through. I might have to update my yearly book challenge since I'm sure I'll finish 50 books with tons of time left over.

I'm currently reading for one of my college classes. I love being an English major. I get to read and comment on books to get grades. It's awesome!

I think that has to do with the fact that it was written by Victor Hugo, who displayed the overly-descriptive narrative of Les Miserables, which tore my nerves to pieces. I loved it, but hated it at the same time. Good luck finishing it. :O

It's been a while, so it's time for me to just share what's going on. I'm still trying to finish Hunchback. I think part of my problem is that I'm just not feeling committed to the story. But, I only have 1/4 of the book to finish, so I'm just going to soldier on and finish it.

I did start reading a book that I'm totally loving (and I'm not that far in) - . I think I like it because I can already see the twisting of my favorite fairy tales happening in the book and that's one of those things that I kind of enjoy. It's why I'm such a fan of Gregory Maguire.

Anyway, my husband and I are about to go on a road trip back to our home state, so I'm hoping to get a lot of reading in during the drive.

Two weeks of vacation and 6 books later, I'm getting close to my year goal of 50 books. I'm currently reading .

Being in a car for three and a half days, I was able to blow through a lot of books, and I only read one that I despised - - which was just poorly written.

Ugh. Finally finished reading . I'm so glad that it's over. Now I'm reading , , and I am also reading to my three year old. I think I'll be happy with this chunk of books to read for the time being.

I have been totally neglectful of my Goodreads. I'm still reading - currently , , and - but I haven't been focused on the book clubs that I am a member of. We're planning on moving soon, so I might not really get a chance to really be active in these kinds of clubs until after we're all set up in our new place. But I am hoping that I will. Especially if I get a library card for where we're heading. Then maybe I won't spend so much on books (yeah, right).

Life got the better of me and I neglected everything that wasn't essential for a few months. Now that I'm back to the world of Goodreads at large, I can start focusing on some consistent updating of this thread if nothing else.

That being said, I have read consistently since we moved. I got a library card, so more books come through my house than ever before. Currently reading four books - Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, An Echo in the Bone, and Rinkitink in Oz.

I'm close to finishing Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but the others are in various stages of literary consumption. I don't know just yet what I'll get from the library next, but I'm sure it will be something great (I don't often find books I don't enjoy).
