It has been suggested that we read a book together as a group. If you have any suggestions for a post- course book, then comment below. I will let everyone post some ideas until around May 12, then I will set up a poll so we can vote on one.
As we read it, we can discuss it!
Post your ideas, it can be anything related to intellectual history, and maybe explain why you suggested it.

The Myth of Sisyphus by Camus

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Myth...

(Since existentialism should have been part of our course but was not covered. Camus's essay introduces his philosophy of 'The Absurd'. What could be better? :-))

I really like Camus's novel La Peste (The Plague) because he deals with being a moral person within the framework of his existential philosophy.

I've always loved Dostoyevsky's coverage of the angst and lethargy implied by the absurd in Notes From Underground.

mc | 1 comments I'd love to re-read some Camus or Sartre. Keep meaning to, but perhaps I need a shove in the right direction; however, probably can't commit to an actual discussion of it for another month or so.

I also support reading an existentialist author to fill in a gap in our modern and postmodern journey.
Prof. Roth said in one of the videos that he usually addresses existentialism with Sartre's "Existentialism is Humanism" and Heidegger's "Letter on Humanism". So these shorter readings could also work as additional sources if we are going to read Camus.

Pam Dane | 2 comments I too think it would be interesting to read Camus or Satre. Haven't read either one for years, so it would be interesting to read after our class.

I will write all of these down. I think I will let people post ideas for another few days, then I will put up a poll for a vote.

Pam: I keep trying to make you a moderator, but it says you email isn't confirmed.

Pam Dane | 2 comments How do I get my email confirmed?

Maybe you can click on something that says resend confirmation email, or you can check your email for a goodreads account confirmation. That's all I can think of to do, otherwise I'm not sure.
