There are many books on my "Read" list that I am just not interested in discussing, (mostly required reading from school) and I would like to remove them from my update feed. I've tried adjusting by editing my profile, but that just removed all my books from the update feed. Anyone?

Hmm. I know that when I mark a book read, there is an option to opt out of it being posted to my feed and FB. But I don't know how to retroactively do it. Hope someone can help you.
There's also the main GR group where you could ask the question there. There are a lot of experts over there.
As far as I can tell you have to have your update feed completely on or off at all times. Though using Charlene's way can give you a cheat. Don't add the book as 'want to read' or 'currently reading'. Wait until you can mark it as 'read'. The site will then take you to where you can rate and review the book. Near the bottom of the screen is the 'add to my update feed' box. Just click it off. And I think that book won't show up on the feed. Hopefully.
I had to do this for my facebook link. My friends don't need to see everything I'm reading. =)

I have comments I make in threads turned off. Not everybody I'm friends with needs to see the comments I'm making.
