Ok, so I was wondering what you bought on your last trip to the bookstore (or the last online order you made)....

I tend to buy six or seven books at a time, because I can't always make it to the bookstore every weekend. I tend to buy them when I am on my last book from my most recent splurge....

I went to Barnes and Noble last night and racked up a rather large bill of $53.78. I was certainly not prepared to spend that much on books. Anyway, that ridiculously large sum of money purchased me six books: Gone by Michael Grant, Scarlet by Marissa Meyer, You Are Here by Jennifer E. Smith, Secret Letters by Leah Scheie, Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson, and It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han. And yes, I am very excited for summer.

So what are some of your recent splurges?

It's driving me crazy because I can't figure out which one to read first! Maybe I should limit myself to two or three books at a time...

That was actually really challenging. I think I spent about an hour picking books up, putting them back, and then picking them up again. I think I thoroughly annoyed a few employees in the process. Anyway, I recently finished the prequel to It's Not Summer Without You, and really enjoyed it. The others had been on my to-read shelf for awhile (and a few of them were on sale). Eventually, I narrowed it down to those six.

Have you read Middlemarch yet? I was considering buying it last night, but I hadn't heard any comments about the book.

Hit the jackpot at The Salvation Army yesterday. Got these books for 50 cents each:

Somebody Come And Play by Clare McNally Dancehall by Bernard F. Conners Tail Spin (FBI Thrillers, #12) by Catherine Coulter The Sallie House Haunting A True Story by Debra Lyn Pickman

message 6: by Renee (new)

message 7: by Emma (new)

Emma Winter | 33 comments I barely ever go to the bookstore I always get my books from the library because the books in bookstores can be kind of expensive

message 8: by Emma (new)

Emma Winter | 33 comments @Renee the CASTER CHRONICLES is an AWESOME series!!!

Jessie | 239 comments I evidently spent $263 purchasing ebooks this morning. This will no doubt be followed by a rather uncomfortable conversation with my mother when she receives the credit card bill.

What a shocker.

Alyssa | 184 comments $263?!? I'm a cheep cake so that is...wow. My dad would freak if i spent over $40

message 12: by Jessie (new)

Jessie | 239 comments I'm technically only supposed to buy one book at a time and read that book before I can buy another one. I will most likely be forbidden to purchase any books for the next 2 or 3 months. Looks like I'll be turning to the freebies for awhile.

message 13: by Gabriella (new)

Gabriella (gmargarita) My most recent book purchase was about $20 on a box set for the first four A Song of Ice and Fire books. Definitely a steal, considering each book is like 1000 pages.

message 14: by Mpiggy (new)

Mpiggy I'll be going to Chapters or Indigo soon to buy the next book in The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series! (When I enjoy a series enough, I like to have all the books.)

message 15: by A (new)

A H My last splurge was long back.....but I bought Chanakya's Chant by Ashwin Sanghi and The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger .

message 16: by Mpiggy (new)

Mpiggy Have you read all the books yet? Because I'm on the second book in the series, but have been constantly interrupted so I've been on, like, the fourth chapter forever.

message 17: by Kate (new)

Kate ✨ is a dreamer Gone by Michael Grant? That sounds SOO good! That's what I'm going to buy next after I get the Denazen books by Jennifer L. Armentrout & possible a few others.
The Gone series sounds old but possibly a little vague & sketchy. How is it?

message 18: by Kate (new)

Kate ✨ is a dreamer I haven't been buying books lately but I'm planning a HIGE slurge after Christmas. All I'm asking for is Amazon gift cards, book store gift cards, money & like 4 other things so I'm hoping for over $200 for books after cmas. I, however, am going to buy the whole damn Denazen series because I JUST CANT WAIT ANY LONGER!!!!!!!!!

message 19: by Olivia (new)

Olivia McCloskey (brewingupbooks) | 2470 comments Mod
What's the Denazen series about? And the Gone series is a bit vague and non-descriptive. It follows the plot of the majority of post-apocalyptic books and tends to move at a slow pace. While there were some good scenes interjected throughout the first several books, I wasn't a huge fan of the series due to the unrealistic characters and unoriginal plot.

message 20: by Kate (new)

Kate ✨ is a dreamer Gone sounds interesting, but I want to try them out.

message 21: by Brooke (new)

Brooke (brookeluvsbooks) I just got The Naturals last night and finished it this morning, so I have to make another trip to th book store tomorrow ;]

I probably won't be able to buy them all, but I'll probably buy a few...or more than a few.

I just bought Allegiant and read the first 100 pages (I couldn't help it!). I'm both excited and sad to start the book - I don't want to see the series come to an end, but I can't wait to read the ending.

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 86 comments I just bought Dorothy Must Die and then, from the used bookstore, I bought Boundless.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Jennifer R. | 26 comments I recently bought Requiem as well as the first to the series, DELIRIUM, Cinder, Fever, Sever, and I tried to order Tempestuous by Lesley Livingston like a month ago but it's giving me problems and I haven't felt like dealing with them. But I get this Friday and Monday off school, so I think I'll finally sit down and get it fixed then.

message 32: by Klancy (new)

Klancy Hoover-Davis Oh my gosh. For Christmas, all I asked for was money so that I could buy books. I'm literally rolling in books right now. These are all the ones I got:

The Other Countess by Eve Edwards
Blood Song by Anthony Ryan
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver
Need by Joelle Charbonneau
Frozen Tides by Morgan Rhodes
The Remedy by Suzanne Young
A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray
Inuxbokuss by Cocoa Fujiwara (manga)
Bloody Cross 1-3 by Shiwo Komeyama (manga)

Hopefully with all these books I'll be able to start my reading challenge for 2016 off on the right foot :)
