How else would they have gottern the hostages back?Honestly, I don't think that the pirates took over the ship because the boat was owned by the French and dumping nuclear waste into their oceans. I don't think that pirates even care. All pirates seem to care about are themselves and money, which was what they were trying to do by holding hostages.
I think that Obama had every right to order open fire on the pirates. They deserved it by being idiots and holding hostages.
Why would you say that the somalians wouldn't care? they have every reason to care! they eat their food out of that water, and france has been dumping Nuclear waste into it, poisoning thousands of people!! Of course they would care! They didn't rob anyone, nor kill anyone unlike pirates hwo as you say "Only care about themselves and money". I dont even think that these men should have been labelod pirates! They hijacked a ship in an attemps to save their waters, and were shot to death for it!! Thats horrible!!!

Obama had no right to shoot them, because the real culprits here are the people who were dumping that waste.

If they're raiding ships, like that have been for a while now, they can steal the food, they're getting money and equiptment for better things, such as food. They don't care about the nuclear waste, they care about the money and fulfilling their greed, which is how all pirates are.

Where's the proof that they hijacked the ship for that? I'm doing the research right now because I remember hearing that they'd pillaged, raped, and killed plenty, which would mean that they're pirates. Every time they go on a raid they cary automatic rifles or AK-47s (I suppose it depends on the raid?) and grenade launchers, which they're trained to use. Just raiding and hijacking the ships I think would make them pirates. Below are just a couple of examples as to why they're pirates:

Oh, I know, right? :) Just because I don't know them doesn't mean that it isn't obvious. They're being idiots by trying to get money for their hostage's lives. Do they really think that that'll work every time? Especially in the latest attack with all of those US Navy ships nearby. I can't believe that they were stupid enough to not realize that this wasn't going to work.

o.o -blinks- Are you serious? You think that dumping waste is a worse crime than piracy? That's ridiculous, Chandani. They took hostages, they've killed people, they've raided ships. Obviously they're not going to stop because they keep doing it. Last time I checked (though I'm not sure how accurate this is now) they've attempted something like 95 hijackings and 30+ have succeeded this year alone. Along with that they've killed people doing so. They are pirates.
i agree with jayda on this one, the little i've managed to hear about this makes it sound like firing on them was the best way to go...

I thought so at first, but reading into it more i found out that the boat that they has "pirated" was french and dumping nuclear waste in their oceans!!! Of course they were going to try and stop it! and then thy wre shot and killed.
