Here are a few that I would like to read and discuss. They range from older to very newer."The Remains of the Day" by Kazuo Ishiguro
"That Old Cape Magic" by Richard Russo
Burgess Boys by Elizabeth Strout
Links to Irene's suggestions:
The Remains of the Day
That Old Cape Magic: A Novel
The Burgess Boys
Thoughts? Interest? Other suggestions for books?

I'm thinking....trying to narrow down what I'd like to read over the summer that would make for a good discussion. :DI really liked The Remains Of The Day, Irene.
Some books for consideration:
The Savage Detectives
In the Memory of the Forest
Galápagos
The Russländer
I didn't find any of these on the Bookshelf.
Some books from my to-read list:Interpreter of Maladies
The Poisonwood Bible
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
In the Shadow of the Banyan
---
I have read & enjoyed The Remains of the Day. Worthwhile read. I would only participate in the discussion from memory. It's not something I wish to re-read. That's not any indication of the quality of the book, though. I very rarely re-read.
We have read "The Poisonwood Bible", and "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" in the years past, but the others are fair game. :o)
I would like to read That Old Cape Magic and In the Shadow of the Banyan.Adding Interpreter of Maladies - I missed that nomination at first.
I'd like to read these that have already been mentioned:The Remains of the Day
In The Shadow of the Banyan
Interpreter of Maladies
And I'd like to read these books also:
The Lacuna
Mink River
Such great suggestions! I would love to read In the Shadow of the Banyan, Galapagos, The Lacuna or Me Before You.
I would contribute to The Lacuna, I read it some time ago as a buddy read (http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...- beware of spoilers!!). Otherwise, I wouldn't commit to any of the other books, though I may join in depending on what's selected.
WE HAVE SOME WINNERS for our summer reads!
We will be reading both The Burgess Boys, and In The Shadow of the Banyon this summer.
We will plan on starting the discussion for The Burgess Boys on July 1st, and starting the discussion for In the Shadow of the Banyan on August 1st.

Ladykaren wrote: "Whoo hoo. I really wanted to read Burgess Boys and now I have an excuse to push it up on my list."And now I have an excuse to buy a new book this weekend! I'm in :)
I'm so excited!BTW, is the nominating chick responsible for facilitating the discussion? If so, I would be leading Bergess Boys. Tara or Sheila, could you start the thread for that when it gets closer? I don't know how to initiate a new thread.
I'm looking forward to both reads. There's a request list for The Burgess Boys at the library for both the book and the audiobook. I've put a request in for both. Hope one comes in on time for our read.
Irene, I will happily start the thread for Burgess Boys for you when it is time for the discussion to start.
I'm glad to hear everyone is excited about these reads.

My library has my copy of The Burgess Boys on its way to me! Yay! I didn't think I'd get it in time (there was a queue for it) and now it's coming early.
Great Petra. Glad you were able to get a copy from your library. Better early than too late. :o)
Is this group still going to read in the Shadow of the Banyan? Its on my list so I sure would like to.
Yes, we will start the discussion for Shadow of the Banyon on August 1st. It got pushed off our group home page when I added Forever Amber as our next chunky, but it is still there, just hidden apparently because it is not till August, and the other two book discussions start in July.

With that said is there any book you would like to discuss and/or lead in the upcoming month(s)? Share with us the book and maybe what about it makes you want to dive into it. If you're unsure if it's a book from a previous group read just check the bookshelf it has all the books we've read.
If someone else nominates a book you would be willing to read and discuss, chime in and say so.
Depending on how quickly books get picked, we could start with a selected book in mid-June, or just plan on selecting books for July and August to give this time to play out and give people time to get copies of the books.
Let the discussion begin! :o)
