Aife and her husband died in a house fire (accidental, not murder) and left their daughter, Branwyn, to Mrs. Maguire to be raised. Branwyn has a happy life with the Maguires living in the Appalachian mountains. She found out about her powers when she accidentally fell through a tree at school and ended up under the oak tree on her family's property. After that, her Mom told her about her birthright.
