Sevania (sevthedev) | 1572 comments Actually, it has one or two swear words. Just to say. Not really bad ones though.

message 3: by Sevania (new)

Sevania (sevthedev) | 1572 comments The swears are in Belle, but there are four princesses in the video, Ariel, Jasmine, Belle, and Pocahontas.

But it is hilarious and everyone should watch it!

So, one of my favorite songs of all time is "Untitled" by Simple Plan. It just really helped me feel understood as I dealt with extreme guilt in my early high school years.

However, I am no longer struggling with this guilt, and I kinda want a song that could serve as a "sequel" to Untitled. Does that make sense? I'm looking for a hopeful song in the same genre as this one.

Any suggestions?

OH MY GOSH SAM YOU MAGICAL GIRL

I don't know if this is "The Song" I've been looking for. But this is the best anyone has come up with ever, and skdkfnsnemememendkdjvjh.

Thanks.

Granted, people were giving me suggestions like "I Love It" by Icona Pop. Yup. Some people….

Sam~~ we cannot see the moon, and yet the waves still rise~~ | 2533 comments Mod
YAY THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY.
and i'll see if i can come up with any more.
HAHAHAHA that was a joke, right?
...right?

message 12: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 3024 comments Mod
That was not a joke. At all.

Yup. Ppl r dum smtims.

It's not even that good of a song…I liked it the first time…but I was also dancing with friends, so that might have made it more tolerable.

the first time i heard it i was trying to figure out the point of it... because, a song must have a point, right?
nope. apparently it has none.

message 16: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 3024 comments Mod
I thought the point was "I feel good even though life sucks."

Then I read the lyrics.

Noooooooope.

Sam~~ we cannot see the moon, and yet the waves still rise~~ | 2533 comments Mod
ugh.
i just don't even understand why that song is popular.

message 18: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 3024 comments Mod
Srsly.

With artists like Five for Fighting and Taylor Swift and U2 out there -- the types who really make you think and feel -- I cannot comprehend why anyone would listen to empty music. As catchy as it is, Party Rock is pathetic and meaningless.

Sam~~ we cannot see the moon, and yet the waves still rise~~ | 2533 comments Mod
(yay you included five for fighting! squeee.)
but lately taylor swift's been going too pop culture-y for my test. not like i'm hipster or anything, i just hate when most stations play on the radio. and i much prefer her older music.

message 20: by Molly (new)

Molly (mollymeaker) I love Radioactive by Imagine Dragons. Have any of you heard it? If so, have you seen the video?? It is soooo..... different? sure, it's different.

Sam~~ we cannot see the moon, and yet the waves still rise~~ | 2533 comments Mod
eh it's okay. not necessarily the kind of music i like listening to usually. but it's alright.

message 22: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 3024 comments Mod
The only good experience I've had with it was watching my friend perform it for an ASL project. That was pretty great.

message 23: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 3024 comments Mod
It depends for me. I like musical aspects of older music, but most of it feels so empty to me. (YMCA, anybody?) Though lots of music today is also empty. So it's not a generational thing, but something about lots of older music is irritating to me.

Just…movie scores. That's all I need. :D

Okay, I'mma ask for more recommendations here.

A few songs in the indie genre I like:

Thank You Mario, but Our Princess is in Another Castle -- the Mountain Goats

Race You -- Elizabeth & the Catapult

A Question -- Bombadil

Whole Wide World -- Mindy Gledhill (not strictly indie, but still good)

ANYTHING REGINA SPEKTOR

So…any recommendations for songs like these?

Nope. "What Makes You Beautiful" is good, but that's just because I'm glad SOMEBODY got that message through to the ladies. I have friends that have super low self-esteem when it comes to looks, and I've tried to say, "YOU'RE PRETTY WHY WON'T YOU BUHLEEVE MEEEEE?!"

But they believe a boy band. Whatever works.

Molly (mollymeaker) I have two of their CD's. I sort of have lots of music CD's. I sort of love music.

I'm mostly a movie score geek. Like, if you play me a track, I can tell you who the composer is, and I'm pretty good about identifying the movie if I've heard other tracks from the score.

what are you guys' favorite artists? songs?

message 37: by Ner (new)

Ner I know I haven't chimed in a lot in this group, but I can't resist the chance to compare notes on favorite tunes. :)

I'm really big into cast recordings from musicals, which casts a pretty wide net. Currently I really dig Spring Awakening and Hair, as well as Book of Mormon and anything by Sondheim.
I also dig AC/DC, Plain White Ts, Taylor Swift, On the Rocks, All American Rejects and Mumford & Sons.
Yeah. I listen to too much music.

You're a doll. Thanks. I'll check these out over the next few days.

Mini-rant:

I had my last piano lesson ever on Friday. Now I have to learn on my own, and I'm trying to learn from other performances of this one piece. But I can't find a good one. The soulless douchebags can't play Chopin correctly, and it makes me upset.

oh man, that does sound frustrating. but i guess once you learn the notes, you'll be able to put as much soul into it as you want. that's something that everyone will do differently, so maybe it can be a positive thing that the others can't play with as much feeling as you'd like. after you learn from their performances, you'll put your own spin on it, and it will be even more unique than it might have been otherwise.
i dunno, just my thoughts.
