Esperanza | 2 comments I read whenever I can get the chance! Just about every day, I spend some time reading in the morning before work and at night before bed. Then if I don't have anything else going on, I'm usually reading during lunch break at work or whenever I get a chance throughout the day. I'm not a big tv person, although there are a few shows that I try not to miss. I try to read in as much quiet as I can, the noise distracts me.

I'm never without a book. I like reading late at night and early in the mornings. I have my own reading room with a comfortable lounge chair and a bookcase.

Emma Winter | 33 comments I read a lot if I really like a book but if the book is okay I can get very easily discouraged

Wow, I've never heard of anyone having to know how a book ends before they read it, Zall. Habits are habits...we all have them. Right you are!

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm never without a book. I'm a fast reader so I go through them rather quickly. I have my own reading room with a comfortable recliner, with a side table for my coffee.
I need total silence to concentrate on a book. I read mostly late at night, early morning and sometimes afternoon.

I also read to my kids, which I think instils a life long love of reading.

I don't choose books by hype. I read what interests me.

I use to do that so that I would know if the book is worth my time but I had to stop because it had me guessing all the time while I read and in one case it just ruined the book for me when I was half way through.

message 7: by Anna (new)

Anna (nocturnalbookworm) | 7 comments I usually read about two books a week. When I start a book, no matter how much I like it, I usually finish it that same day. Or I always read at least a hundred pages then finish it the next day. I have realized that this diminishes my ability to enjoy the books as much as I could though, because I don't give it time to sink in.

message 8: by Rose (new)

Rose (ka-tet-rose) | 37 comments I will read whenever I feel the need to. Sometimes, if I really enjoy the book, I could read non-stop! Other times I might not feel like reading. I usually at the most read two books in case I get bored of reading the other. I hate distractions when I'm reading! No TV or music for me. I can go out in public and read though. I love going to the public pool by me during the summer and reading after a dip in the pool. Nice and warm out in the sun~

message 9: by Renee (new)

Renee I read chapter by chapter, I can't ever not finish a chapter...and if it's a cliffhanger chapter I have to kep reading too. Also, I hook my bookmark over my thumb when I read. :D
It's just a habit.

message 10: by Shauna (new)

Shauna | 6 comments I read whenever I can because of my Uni. workload. I read as much as I can fit in, depending on what I have going on at the time. Sometimes I read 3/4's of a book in one sitting, sometimes I read a couple of pages!! It's all become kind of mixed!! :)

message 11: by Casandra (new)

Casandra I read whenever I can, sometimes it depends on the book and how fast I read it or how slow, my average (depending on the book) is about 5 books a month, and I barely ever watch tv or an on the Internet.

message 12: by Erin (new)

Erin | 3 comments I read as much as possible, which isn't always as much as I'd like. I'm also a very fast reader. if I'm really into a book I'll have it finished in 2 days to a week, but it took me a month and a half to read Atlas Shrugged. I hope The Executioner's Song doesn't take me as long!

message 13: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 11 comments I read whenever I can. I don't really try to finish a book in a certain amount of time...it just kind of happens. I usually get distracted by my solitaire app on my iPod touch. As for reading outside, it all depends, but I love the natural light. It just feels better. Does that make sense (because I know that sounds weird)?

message 14: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 9 comments I read all the time - it drives my husband insane! I usually read at least 1 book a week, sometimes it's more. I am an emergency dispatcher so I can pretty much read through anything (listening to a million things at the same time isn't much of a distraction for me) and I work long hours so i have a lot of time at work (when it's not busy) to read so I can read like a machine.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I know it bothers the heck out of some people, but I've always folded over the corners of book pages to mark my spot, instead of getting up and finding a bookmark. It's a really bad habit that I picked up and can't seem to shake. My sister gets so mad when I borrow her books and return them with creased corners!

Shannon | 9 comments Khristi wrote: "I constantly and subconsciously twirl my hair while I'm reading. It's a really bad habit that I've had since I was a kid, and just haven't been able to stop."

I do the same thing. One of my coworkers is always yelling at me to stop. Lol.

message 17: by Marie (new)

Marie (myland) | 35 comments I tend to visit the local library every week or fortnight for a book, when I don't get much homework. My parents sometimes get really annoyed when it's a school night and I'm still awake 'til near midnight, reading a really interesting book.

message 18: by Gabriella (new)

Gabriella (gmargarita) I try to read as much as much as possible but sometimes it gets away from me. I find the Internet and tv to be a huge distraction that causes me to forget about reading for days at a time. Usually I'll only read a lot if it's a really good book, but pretty much I'll read anywhere at any time. Not too picky.

message 19: by Mpiggy (new)

Mpiggy I read most of the time whenever I get a chance. I read during breakfast and lunch at home and till the last minute before dinner when my mom makes me put my book away. Still, I have it right beside me and when we're done eating, I open it again until I have to help out with dishes. But like you said Bri, the Internet for me is a huge distraction as well, and I also have piano and guitar and I like to write and draw in my free time too, so my free time is usually full. But with a really good book, I'll read non-stop until I finish and, I hate to admit it, but I'll read while I brush my teeth.

message 20: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa | 184 comments Have have this thing that I have to finish a book or I feel really bad about it. Does anyone else feel that way? Even if I'm like at page 20 and I really don't want to continue, I try to force myself because I feel like I am abandoning something that someone out there worked really hard on. So that's why before I read any book I do a lot of research on Goodreads (reviews, plot, quotes) and when I get the book I read the last page, then go and read the book. And even doing that there is a lot of books I abandon.

message 21: by Mpiggy (new)

Mpiggy Yeah, I always finish a book. I can't leave a book unfinished, but I'm not sure why. I think because I might feel bad about it too, but also because I don't want to rate a book that I haven't even barely read. And I do a lot of work on deciding what books I'm going to read next too. I'll read the description, look at a couple reviews and other people's ratings and the overall rating. Actually right now I'm going through my whole to-read list and writing down all the singles and rating them, by description to see if I might enjoy it, how badly I want to read it.

message 22: by Özgecan (new)

Özgecan (ozgecan) | 22 comments I can't say I read this many books a week or a month. I guess it all depends on the book for me. If I love a book I litereally cant stop reading until I finish it. Even leaving the book to get something to eat is hard. And it is not a very good habit. I am a university student. If I have to go to school I take the book with me and read it every chance I have but then I cant concantrate on the days events.
Anyway and if I dont like a book it can even take months for me to finish it. I dont like leaving a book unfinished but sometimes I do.
But apart from these two types of books, I always try to have a book with me not something that is so encompassing that it will take me from my normal life, but someting I can read in lunchbreaks or on the bus.
If it is a series and I like it and have all the books then I read them as I said non-stop and I'd have read a few books in a week.
I try not to start a book before the exam week.

I feel the exact same way. I tend to force myself through a book, regardless of whether or not I'm enjoying it. The only two books that I've been unable to finish are Beautiful Creatures and Twilight.

message 24: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 9 comments I have to finish a book - even if it kills me!

message 25: by Mpiggy (new)

Mpiggy Haha, I love the way you got your point down, Shannon! Short and simple, but summed up perfectly :D

Shannon | 9 comments Mpiggy wrote: "Haha, I love the way you got your point down, Shannon! Short and simple, but summed up perfectly :D"

Lol!! I don't care if I have to force myself - if I started it, I have to finish it to know how it ends.

message 27: by Jessie (new)

Jessie | 239 comments I have the terrible habit of starting five or six books at the same time. It's very challenging to keep all of the books straight, and I certainly haven't done anything to help myself. It becomes annoying when I can't remember which plot and characters belong with which book and it takes me awhile to readjust to the storyline each time I switch books. Despite constant attempts to reverse this habit, I have always fallen back into the same pattern.

I also have developed the habit of refusing to stop reading until I have reached the end of a chapter. This is one of my pet peeves. I simply cannot set the book down in the middle of a chapter!

I'm the same way Jessie I have 13 books going right now, but lucky they are all different so it is easy for me to keep track of them. And I too have to finish a chapter before I go to bed at night.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

I have to completely finish a book even if I am not liking it.

message 30: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 97 comments Me too ! I also always buy books at the book fair even though I am not done with the ones I got last time! I like have my own library !

message 31: by Kennedy (new)

Kennedy | 236 comments The time I read most is mainly before bed but i read all throughout the day, i do admit that tv can take a toll on my reading if its something interesting. It also depends on what i'm reading and how much i like it. :)

message 32: by T.L. (new)

T.L. Onyx | 1 comments I love to read! I work full time and I'm a writer/artist on the side, but when I can delve into a good book...I'm ecstatic! If I could get paid for reading all day, my life would be complete!

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I read as much as possible. I read with my morning coffee on the porch before work, I read during my breaks, I read a chapter before starting dinner, and I usually read a few chapters before bed. :) I ALWAYS carry a book in my bag, even if I am just going to the corner store. That way, I can get in a page or two whenever I have to wait.
