Summer of the Monkeys discussion

I read this book with my special education class. They loved the book, laughed at different parts. We were so disappinted in the movie. They changed so much, didn't even seem like the same book. Who has read the book, and seen the movie? I thought the crutch being hung on the wall was a big part. She didn't even have a crutch in the movie...
