Mitzi (vintagegoodness) | 10 comments I was going to post this to the What I Am Reading thread, but then I decided it deserves its own post - I just finished it, and I have to say, I loved every second of it! I can't recommend it highly enough.

The writing is outstanding (I love to read excellent writing, but at the same time I hate it - it makes me feel like there is no way on God's green earth I will ever be able to write anything even half as good...) and the story is so interesting that it was hard to put the book down. And it is all based on true events, and real people. All Thom did was fill in a few gaps where the facts weren't known. I'll be reading other books by him in the very near future!

If you have any favorite Thom books please do post them here, it might help me prioritize my reading list! :)

Harold Titus (haroldtitus) | 98 comments "Long Knife" was the first Thom novel I read, a few years ago. I, too, enjoyed the writing and the portrayal of historical characters. I would recommend that you read "Panther in the Sky," which is about Tecumseh, the Shawnee leader who attempted to unite different Indian tribes to halt the encroachment of White settlers on tribal lands prior to the War of 1812. Future U.S. President William Henry Harrison is Tecumseh's arch enemy.

I thought Follow the River and From Sea to Shining Sea were both very good. The first is the story of Mary Draper Ingles, very interesting, exciting and grisly at times, but all true! The second is the story of the Clark family, told very well by Thom. You will see more of George in this book, and the rest of the family as well.
