A lake in their territory

Trotzen walked knee-deep into the lake, sighing at the cool water lapping at his scales.

"What a busy day! First hunting, then hunting again, and now this!" Tikatch exclaimed as she walked in after Trotzen.

Trotzen laughed. "It has been quite exciting! Don't forget the smoke shapes." He flicked his tongue playfully, and then splashed a bit of water Tikatch's way.

"Hey!" Tikatch lifted up her clawed paw and splashed more water. "Take that!" she said equally playfully.

This started a water fight. Trotzen breathed his hot breath onto the surface of the water, steaming it up into Tikatch's face.

"Not fair!" Tikatch was blinded for a moment as the smoke enveloped around her. She blew fire back onto the water at Trotzen once his smoke had gone and splashed him with more water.

Trotzen laughed at their game. He expanded his wings and flapped them gently, showering Tikatch in tiny crystalline droplets of water. Just at that moment the sun emerged from behind a cloud, making rainbows dance around her scales now covered with water. He stopped and stared, squinting against the bright flashing beads of water.

Tikatch smiled. She hadn't had this much fun since she was just and apprentice! She flapped her wings back at Trotzen and reared up to gain hight. Her foot hit a mossy rock underneath the water. Tikatch fell to the ground and landed in the water softly, showering Trotzen with a wave of lake water.

Trotzen inhaled sharply with surprise and sputtered, blinking rapidly. "Nice one!" He settled down and swam deeper into the lake.

Tikatch followed. They were deep enough that their feet were several yards away from the bottom. Tikatch dove underwater and slithered like a snake over to Trotzen. She burst from the blue liquid and a shower of raindrops sprinkled Trotzens black/purple scales.

Trotzen growled with surprised delight. He too dove underneath the surface of the lake and went down to the bottom, lying restfully against the pebbly surface, bubbled rising up from his mouth and nose.

With a backwards flip in the air she dove under water towards Trotzen. Tikatch swam down and settled near Trotzen, bumping him slightly. She hummed with amusement as several multicolored fish swam above her and tried to attack her with unharmful pecks of their mouths. She turned her head and snapped ones head off, letting it fall to the ground instead of eating it. The rest quickly swam away.

Trotzen shook with silent laughter. His lungs still full of plenty of air, Trotzen flipped onto his back and watched lazily as fish swam above him and the far away sunlight glinted off of their scales. He wondered if TIkatch now understood what he had meant back when they had been talking about mates and such.

Tikatch did the same and thought back to their conversation in the Hunting Forest. Maybe he was trying to make a point. Wait a second, he was! She now understood what he was trying to say to her. She swamish/scootyish closer to Trotzen as if to say 'of corse'.

Trotzen turned to look at her as if to say, "Do you understand now?"

She responded by flicking her tail over his, silently saying "Yes."

Trotzen couldn't help but feel extremely delighted at this. He sorta twitched his nose, implying, "Uh, what now?" He realized that his lungs were starting to yearn for air, and he shifted slightly uncomfortably, willing himself to stay underwater for just a bit longer.

Tikatch agreed with Trotzens actions. Her lungs were almost out of air also. she stood back up and nodded towards the surface mouthing: "I want to stay under longer, but we need air!"

Trotzen kicked off from the bottom of the lake and burst out of the water, gulping down the air gratefully. "That could have been a disaster," He said happily.

"Yah, it could've." Tikatch agreed after surfacing. "What now?"

"I…uh…" Trotzen suddenly felt a little uncomfortable. He looked around, searching for something to say.

"Yha... Ooh! Wanna make smoke shapes?" Tiaktch asked.

Thankful that Tikatch had found something to say, Trotzen grinned mischievously, and quickly blew a smoke shape. Except it was right in Tikatch's face. He rumbled happily at her surprised expression.

Tikatch recoiled with mock hate. "I'll show you!" she said playfully. Tikatch blew several smoke shapes back at Trotzens face.

Trotzen watched them dissipate as they brushed past his face. Suddenly he became very alert, and stopped blowing smoke around. "Aren't we here for border patrol?" He asked nervously.

"Oh, yah! I bet we are going to get in trouble!" Tikatch hurriedly swam towards the shore and looked over her shoulder, impatiently waiting for Trotzen to come before flying off.

Lightning Sun flew over head, and landed in front of the two dragons. "Is everything going fine?"he asked warily.

"Huh? Oh, yah! Everything is just fine! Nothing to worry about, nothing at all. We were just-Er-checking the lake to see if any-Er-harmful things were in it! Were done now. Nothing in the lake!" Tikatch pawed the ground impatiently at having to talk to LightningSuns leader.

Lightning Sun cocked his head. "I came because I saw the smoke. And both of you know that smoke means your in trouble. Are you sure?"

Trotzen watched openmouthed as Tikatch lost her cool. He walked slowly after her, warily approaching Lightning Sun. "Hello," he said, nodding towards him.

"Oh, smoke! We just," Tikatch looked around the lake shore. She spotted a freshly dead fish still flopping on the ground, "killed that fish by breathing fire over the water! That's where the smoke came from." Tikatch went over to the fish and broke its neck with a quick snip.

Lightning Sun bowed his head. "So, why exactly were you blowing smoke?" He froze. "Please tell me you weren't... Playing."

"Tell me the truth..."

Not knowing what to say, Trotzen looked to Tikatch. What do we do? He asked her silently.

"We, were, well…recently we've been discussing the problem of not having enough young dragons…" He said, trying to imply some meaning into his words.

"Playing? Of course not! Playing is childish! We were doing exactly what I said. I thought that we could use a new technique to catch fish." Tikatch covered up.

"Yes, that to." Tikatch agreed with Trotzen.

Lightning Sun had no expression on his face. "Very well than. Make sure you report anything suspicious."

Tikatch bowed her head towards her leader. She watched him disappear before turning to Trotzen. "That was awkward."

"Oh! Make sure you come to my den after your border patrol. Got that?"

"No prob!" Tikatch answered.

Lightning Sun dipped his with respect, opened his wings, and flew off.

((I think I understand things now…..wow, that was confusing. ;) ))

"I agree. Very awkward. Did I say the right thing?" He responded to Tikatch.

"You did great." Tikatch answered as she hummed softly. "Well, we better get done with the patrol and head over to Lightning Suns cave."

Indra flew down to the shore swiftly and asked, "Do you need help with the patrol?"

"Um, sure. We were just about done though. One flight across the lake then we head back to camp." Tikatch answered Indra. She looked over at Trotzen to get his approval on what she had said.

Indra opens her wings ready to take flight and says, "Ok, thanks for letting me join!"

Trotzen nodded slightly at Tikatch. "Yes, I believe things are fine here. Definitely." He looked to Tikatch to lead.

((A roar came from the distance, meaning a message for you fm group of patrol. Here's the message: "The two that I saw at Lightning Lake, come to my den." ))
