I agree with Leah. I think the most important thing is personality, but body language is also important. It tells you a lot before you even talk to them. Looks are a bonus.

I'm no showstopper, not by any means, but I have a lot of friends who are amazing to me because I'm me. That's a beautiful thing.

That's sad. Think of all the amazing people she could be meeting right now! I just recently met a boy with a speech impediment and not handsome by the impossible standards set by our society today. Really nice kid, very funny, and awesome. I made a friend! :)

That's sad. One of my friends who I've known for a long time is a feminist like me, and while she says people shouldn't judge females on their appearances she turns around and does exactly that to males, and then says, "You can't be sexist to men," which is incorrect.
I guess that's not much better but not much worse either/

I remember in my dating days when I wasn't attached and my friends would try to play matchmaker with a blind date. When I asked about the girl and they said "she's got a great personality", I knew I was going to develop a mysterious illness and have to leave early in the evening.

Are you saying you'd rather have looks over personality then?
Are you saying you'd rather have looks over personality then?
Actually I was just reliving some humorous moments from my younger days. Seriously, we all have both looks and personality don't we? The trick is maximizing both into an attractive, interesting mix. A wooden beauty is no better than a bubbly frump.
Robert wrote: "Actually I was just reliving some humorous moments from my younger days. Seriously, we all have both looks and personality don't we? The trick is maximizing both into an attractive, interesting mix..."Well said, my friend, well said!
Well take someone like Ann Coulter, the politicl bombshell. She's slim, shapely, blonde, and attractive but so are many others. What sets her apart is an outrageous and irrepressible knack for skewering people and situations that deserve satire. And she does if while always smiling and seeming to present the whole affair as humorous when in reality, it's dead serious. Personality along with beauty jointly wins the day for her.
Honestly, I'm not trying to be miss goodie-two-shoes or anything, but looks don't matter to me for friends. However, i do judge people when I first see them and I'm proud of it though. As for dating, i can't date anyways so that's out of the question :)

Are you going to be able to date in the future though?
Yes--sometimes it's a reflex to judge someone when you first see them on their appearance, because there's nothing else to base them on, but I try not to make a habit of it. This isn't a very good example, but in the movie Beastly the dude was an awful person when he was blond and "perfect" but ended up being pretty decent when he had those crazy marks all over him.

Sorry--that's normally my type of book. But either way, he was a better person when he was in the supposedly hideous and awful body than when he was the big-shot kid.

That's true. I couldn't think of a better example though.
I once read this series about this average-looking, feminist girl whose brain gets put into a hot, model's body. At the end of the series she throws away her feminist ideals and the book basically taught me that beauty is required in life to be happy, because being beautiful is extremely important and if you're not beautiful or don't want to be you're not a true girl, as well as no male will ever like you. Also, men don't understand feminism, so you might as well dumb yourself down for them. Great lesson, huh?

Yeah, it's because of the fact that I am Muslim is the reason as to why I don't and can't date. Muslims aren't supposed to date, but some do anyways. And i watched Beastly Lo, i get your comparison :)

I've heard a lot of bad things about Twilight from my former Twilight-fan friends. I heard Edward basically watches her sleep before he even knows her, andshe thinks it's romantic? That's really scary.
About The Lonely Hearts Club--I actually wanted to read that book. Now I'm not so sure.
And YA novels-- I heard the book Beautiful Disaster was like that? I read the review of someone and it disgusted of how awful it was. Apparently whenever another guy looks or talks to the main character she tells her boyfriend to beat him up or something. That's ridiculous. And yet I saw a lot of 5 star ratings.

I don't know. There are many books I see where everyone is rating it five stars and then I see one of the reviewers I follow label it "sexist."
I hate it when people fall for someone just because of their appearance. They're not describing the love interest's personality, no, they're describing how hot they are.
Arwen wrote: "we all say personality. but realistically what do you think would happen?"Well, I like my best guy friend, and he's not traditionally handsome, but he's funny, smart, and nice. That's why I fell for him, not for his looks.
I have this one friend who is pretty, and she once received a note from a boy saying:
"You're cute."
"What's your name?"
The boy didn't even know her name, and he was already interested.
Also, I don't like it that in movies if a girl is called pretty or something by a male she'll just fall in LOVE with them.

And the weird thing is, there are some women that are so flattered by a man showing interest in them because they're only beautiful that they'll proceed to actually want the man.

I actually don't like it when people tell me I'm beautiful or pretty. They're really just saying, "Your parents gave you wonderful genetics." You really have almost no power over it.

Well I am nearsighted so I have to base stuffs in personality lol. I rarely like nice-looking guys anyway. (I meant, I can't really trust my eyes when it comes to seeing)

I'm actually not "blind," but I can't see the big E on the eye chart from 20 feet away, which means that technically, unless I have glasses on, I'm blind to the government. But hey, we can still cheer for people with defective eyes!!
*CHEER!*

Well, that all depends on what their standards are for legal blindness. My visual acuity is worse than 20/200, which is legal blindness in America, but I'm assuming that other countries are smart enough to realize that people like me shouldn't be driving. :) Although, with best correction, my visual acuity is fine, so I'm not really legally blind, I guess, since legal blindness is 20/200 with best correction.

I can't speak for others, but I wouldn't want to drive at all because I'd never get where I was going, really! :)
I'm a diabetic and in the U.K if my blood glucose level goes too low I can be charged for driving under the influence of drugs. I think its a stupid law. Its the one thing that prevents me from learning to drive (plus I don't need a car or need to drive, my friends are learning now but I get the bus to school as its cheaper). And as too eyesight my understanding is that in the U.K you just have to reed the numberplate of a car 15 feet away to be able to drive. If people wear their glasses its fine because at that point they are able to see clearer and so are able to read the numberplate.

Unfortunately, to affirm people SHOULD mind personality over/before/more than appearance is almost unrealistic, an utopy. People stare first, and then think (or do not think at all). That´s why I beleive we must do the best effort to show ourselves as we wish to be seen, supposing in advance the interpretation people would give by "reading" our books by its covers.
Well personality is obviously more important...looks can't be everything. The reason most teen relationships last 3 days is because most people don't care about personality whatsoever...

Most of the teen relationships I know have people only holding hands down the halls. Some of these kids even ask out the so-called "uncool and unattractive" kids to mess with them.
