Only some books are free. Like some classics. Under the book will be a button called Read Book. Just click on it.

Hi Kathleen
Welcome!

I have just seen your posts - I am not a moderator in this group and some groups have more active mods than others.
When you write a message you will notice the add book/ author option on top of the box and you can use this to add a book link and cover:
Thunderhead
Thunderhead (Flicka, #2) by Mary O'Hara
The key is to place the book where you won't be told off for spamming and this varies between groups; you will usually find a folder for authors to promote, or in this group, there is a thread called Promote Anything.

You could try mentioning the book once in a suitable thread and telling us that the link and cover are in the Promote Anything thread.
As for asking for reviews, well you have done that and caught my attention, but not all members will see that post so again, you can ask in the promotions thread.
There are also Groups like Authors seeking Reviews and Authors connecting with Readers, so look around.
If you happen to be interested in any green issues - a lot of horse owners would be - try the Green Group as I am a Mod there and we get a good few requests for reviews.

Hi, I am now the Moderator so I'll be available to help.

Authors, please post your book promotion only in the Promotions Folder.

We've had a query as to how to find the Promotions Folder. This is a great question, so if you go to the Group Home or Discussions, which you will find mentioned on the top right of a page on a desktop, that will bring you to a listing of all the folders.
Promotions Folder is down the page a little. We all love to learn about new horse books.

Any more questions, just ask!

If you find any obvious spam on Goodreads - I'm talking an ad for a laundromat or something stuck into a conversation - you can report this.
You can do this with the small grey 'flag' note on the top right of a thread.
You can also flag a user profile if they have a photo, by clicking the 'flag' note near the photo.
If spam is in a group, you can also bring it to the Moderator's attention.

Otherwise you can go to the 'About Us' at the bottom left of a page. From there you will get a list of options, choose Contact, and you can report spam or abuse. You will need to save the link that was on top of the page you are reporting, like a user profile that is only an ad for a laundromat.
To save the link, just put your mouse on it, left click to highlight, right click and choose 'copy' so later you can right click in the message box and choose 'paste'.

If you are using an Apple Mac, you can usually enable the right mouse button, which may not work by default. Go to the Settings menu and look for Devices and there will be a picture of a mouse. Choose that and enable the buttons you want.

Thanks for a good question!

If you look at the list of all the discussions, on the Home page for the Group or by clicking Discussions on the top right, you will see a folder called Books. In this we have threads called Good Horse Books and For the Group Bookshelf. If you just want to chat about a book, author, series, or lessons you learned from a horse story, go for Good Horse Books and add your comment. If you particularly want to recommend a book for the Group Bookshelf, choose that option. You can do both!

Authors are not supposed to recommend their own books in this way.

Another copy and paste option is to highlight the item you want, press Control+C which is a button with Ctrl on the lower left of keyboard, at the same time as letter C. This copies.
Go to where you want to paste, click on the spot, press Control+V. This pastes.

For a Mac, replace Control with the command button, Cmd.

Some pages will work this way if they do not allow the mouse right click paste.

Hi,

Just passing on the message that according to another forum, some aggressive spammers are mailing new authors who are looking for anyone to review their books. These spammers are fraudsters and need to be reported. They are not going to review your book.
Read the messages here on Goodreads Authors / Readers Group. I have chipped in some advice about spotting spam profiles.

Here is something you can do on Goodreads.
If you have gained or read a book and want to shelve it, but you find the title is not shown properly, or the author is not shown properly, or there are two versions of the book instead of two editions, you can ask the Librarians to correct this.

As an example, I just finished reading Emma and Freckles.
The book was not shown with a cover and the cover was on a book with a slightly different title which had the word paperback in it.

That is enough to confuse the computer record.
So I went to the Goodreads Librarians Group and asked the volunteers there to sort out the problem. They are always happy to help.

https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

They need a copied and pasted link to the book you refer to, and and other versions of the book you find. They can also sort out adding covers, if you find a cover on Amazon for a book shown blank.
Then everyone will be able to find your horse or pony book and add it to their bookshelf.

I've been asked a great question, how to show the book covers in a thread? We all love looking at horse book covers of course.

When you are typing in to the message box on a desktop, a little line on top right above the box offers to insert a book or author.
Put your cursor where you want the link to go in the box. Then click that line and you can search for a title or author.

My Friend Flicka
It's a little fiddly at first but the cover is an option at the bottom of that search box. Hit cover and you will also have the chance to select an edition if there is more than one cover. This option is alongside the book you choose.
My Friend Flicka (Flicka, #1) by Mary O'Hara My Friend Flicka by Mary O'Hara My Friend Flicka by Mary O'Hara My Friend Flicka (Egmont Classics) by Mary O'Hara Mi amiga Flicka (Flicka, #1) by Mary O'Hara My Friend Flicka Part 1 by Mary O'Hara

Try it and if you don't get quite the result you want, go back in and edit your message.

If a reader uses a phone to post and has the answer to how you could do this from a phone, please post the answer. Being a longform writer, I use a desktop as much as possible.

Hi Kathleen,

Thanks for asking. I suggest the right place to post that message is in the authors' / promotions folder. You could start a new thread or post in the Promote Anything thread.

I decided it's best to mention that Goodreads is no longer sending messages by e-mail to say that a thread has a new contribution. Similarly, it is no longer sending an e-mailed Group broadcast from a Mod - for instance, to say a challenge, poll, monthly book read etc. has started.
Members don't know about the change and will have to come to their profile or group pages to check for messages.
Messages will be notified on top of the member profile page, either in the bell icon on the right, or in the speech bubbles next to it, which are for Group threads.
Group Mods have not been asking for these changes, and there is a chance it will reduce participation. Please do continue to enjoy your Groups.

Hi Allie, welcome and thanks for getting in touch.
I'm glad you found us!

Previously on Goodreads, you would get a daily message showing if someone replied to your posts. Now you don't, but there may be an alert notification on a little bell icon near your profile pic.

A good way to get to know people (some of whom are book authors) is to contribute to discussion threads. You can see who likes similar books to you and check out their profile's bookshelves. If you want you can ask to be friends or follow; though of course some people don't choose to be very active that way and might not take up a friend request. It's not personal.

The more you post about what you like and which books you read, and the more books you shelve, the more people will be inclined to connect with you.
I just checked out your bookshelves and you don't have nearly enough horse books, so get shelving!
