Water Fish Science was good, but it was random and had no quotes. I like science so i liked it.

Susan Gill I think the impact of this book is not necessarily the "science" of meteorology but the imperfection of human decision making. This is a real life drama that chronicles the horror of what is still the worst hurricane in American history.

Emily VanderPloeg I didn't like it and thought that it was rather dull.

Lobstergirl Hated it. Awful writer. He just made stuff up - when you look at some of his footnotes, he admits there are things we don't know, but he decided to insert a fabricated detail anyway.

Carolyn I read it as the daughter of a weatherman who was employed by the US Weather Service for 41 years. I also grew up on the Texas coast and have ridden through a few hurricanes. From these personal points of view, it was a good read. I wish my father were still living so I could hear his responses to the early image of weather prediction and the creation of the weather service. As for the response of human beings to approaching hurricanes--not much has changed. I assume you have heard of the hurricane parties thrown by those who think it will be fun to ride it out. Galveston and New Orleans probably have fewer of these parties now.

Marilyn I was fascinated by the whole thing and could not put it down. What a tragedy, and what insight to how the political side of forming the weather bureau affected the whole incident. I felt the writer was very good, excellent, in fact.

Jeffery Lee Radatz I have liked all of Mr. Larson's books, and I wish all my history books were as exciting as he had made them. Imagine writing like that for the Revolutionary War or the Korean conflict, for instance. It would make history class A LOT MORE INTERESTING!!
