Umm.. I had braces when I was 14 years old. It stayed for 2 years. I had my teeth coming out of my mouth, hence my two strong teeth were pulled put to make space for braces to push in my teeth. I would say no harm in it if you want teeth to be in good shape.

Yeah I have braces. They're not too bad and as long as they're helping my teeth I don't mind. It's a pain for a bit and sometimes it's a bit sore but I think it depends on when u get them and who else is getting them. If all your friends are getting them too (happened with me) then it's less worrying because it doesn't change your social status or whatever. I don't think they're bad in terms of dental hygiene or whatever though

I have braces. Well, to begin with, I had the a pallet expander and a Herbst appliance, but I've gotten those out.

Advantages: the end results!
Disadvantages: food limits, soreness, and those stupid ulcers from the brackets/wire rubbing

I've gotten to the point (on food restrictions) where I'm just like, "Forget it. If it breaks, I'll get it fixed, but I'm eating what I want." :)

I tried to follow the food restrictions, but after a year and a half without gum, popcorn, and soda. Not to mention all of the candy I love, I just gave up trying to follow them.

Elaney Yeah, I think I'm eating everything I'm not supposed to be at this point.

Nicole (turwaithielgreenleaf) | 17 comments I first got braces when I was 9 years old, following an operation on my front teeth. Not only was it a brace, but (squeamish people might want to not read this) I also had a chain literally sewn to the roof of my mouth. The idea was to attach it to my front tooth and connect it to the brace to pull the adult tooth down. Anyway, it turned out the stitches were non permanent, so the chain fell down about 3 months later. But anyway, I had that brace for about a year, bearing in mind it was only on my front 4 top teeth. Then, 2 years ago, I got another brace, this time to sort out the skew of the teeth and my overbite. I also had elastic bands, and I am currently on the strongest they do, which kinda shows how bad my overbite was. I should have it taken off very soon (I am going back next Friday) so then I should have perfectly straight teeth! I see some are talking about the price, but here in England we have the NHS, so I didn't pay for either of my braces. As for food restrictions, I was told not to eat hard food, chewy food or drink fizzy/acidic drinks. I still drink fruit juices and eat hard food, but I don't really eat things like chewing gum or drink fizzy drinks that often, so it didn't affect me much.

Evan (sampsom) | 578 comments I had Braces eventually got them off. Its amazing. The first thing I would recommend anyone do is bite into an apple. (dont do it if you have braces that is a bad thing.) It was the most amazing thing, something I hadn't been able to do for years. It was like meeting an old friend.

Just out of curiosity, what does NHS stand for. Here (in high schools of course) it stands for National Honors Society, so I'm just curious.

My orthodontist lady is from another country and I can't understand her that well, so I just smile at everything she says. I think she's from Spain, because she always talks to all the other ladies about going back to Spain. Also, she has a habit of opening my jaw further than it is physically possible, so it really aches after having them tightened again.

Nicole (turwaithielgreenleaf) | 17 comments I went to the orthodontist today, and she said I should get my braces off next time. That means no braces in 10 weeks! Unfortunately it also mean I have to have these blasted elastic bands for 10 more weeks. Apparently I am now in the last stages so I have to have 2 bands on either side of my brace, and then I have a different band for night time which only requires one band. I swear I am going to forget which ones I have to wear when, but at least I'll have straight teeth with no braces very soon!

Jenni (thefabjenni) | 42 comments Well, if my teeth are getting better, then braces!

Advantages: choosing colours, good teeth
Disadvantages: time, forgetting bands, tightening
