As a reader, what kind of books do you enjoy more? Do you actively seek out books that are a part of a series? Or is it the story alone that will make you pull the book off the shelf?

Dianne | 1 comments Depends on the genre. Generally, if they gave compelling characters, I like to stick with them for more than just one book.

Typically, what I've found is the further along a series goes the less realistic it becomes. I'm speaking of crime fiction or police procedurals. Are great characters enough to make you follow the series throughout? Or does loss of authenticity make them lose their luster? To me, if a detective is constantly being stalked, shot at, chasing serial killers, etc. I begin to drift away even if I really love him as a character.
