Is this a good book?

I really enjoyed this book. In fact, I ended up reading the entire series over a weekend. It is a supernatural book told from the viewpoint of a human boy. The authors manage to capture the atmosphere and humor of a small Southern town while making it believable that an entirely different world can co-exist right alongside the mundane human world. Hope you enjoy as much as I did!
I got that book 4 years ago but I had so many others so I didn't read it until I found out the movie is coming. It is pretty easy to read and it is one of those books I like to read when I don't want to have anything on my mind. It relaxed me and I got lost between the pages. You should definitely read it :)
Thanks. Yeah I just have this 1 so far. I haven't started to read it yet. but Usually if I know a movie is coming out and it's based on book. I try to read it before I see the movie.
This is not a good book. I recently started a discussion called Do you hate(dislike) this book. I don't know if it's still up though. It got a lot of responses.Anyway, the book was way to long and dragged on and on.
You should still try it though. Doesn't hurt to try.

Thanks! Was the whole series like this or just this book?
It's sort of dumbed down, but if you're just looking for an easy read it's ok. It's not really quality literature. However, like others have said, the story began to drag after a while. The underdeveloped characters began to get on my nerves, too. Lots of Mary Sues, and the narrator is not believable. And if you really are from the South, the stereotypes will get on your nerves.
I adored this series. But I will be honest and tell you that the first two books are killer to get through. They're very long and drawn out and it's really a struggle to get through them at all. I honestly wanted to strangle Ethan in the first and Lena in the second.
BUT. The third and fourth books are actually quite wonderful. And it seemed that once they got all the foundation laying out of the way, Kami and Margaret really got the story moving and brought out the magic. I don't cry for anything. ANYTHING. (Even when I'm in pain.) And the third book had me bawling.
So if it seems difficult and horrible at first, please try to get to book three before you give up? I know it sounds stupid and pointless, but book three is miles better than one or two.
Its a pretty good story line, but the characters annoy me so much! I'm reading the third book at the moment and so far it seems much better than the first two!

I have only read the first book, wouldn't want to waste my time trying the other ones.
A good book is such a relative term, I mean people who love the book will say 'it is' while those who hated the book will say 'it's not' but if you want a book that is very slow paced, redundant, you might like this.
for everyone who wants to know if you should buy the book and if it worthy the price, my answer to you is yes! this book fits those who love to read about super natural powers, dark fantasy, romantic and so on.if you are still not sure if you should buy it, there are a couple of reactions of newspapers about the book. here are a few of them:
"gorgeously crafted, atmospheric, and original. I devoured it." Melissa marr- new York times bestseller author of 'wicked love'.
"a lush southern gothic." holly black- new York times bestseller author of 'tithe: a modern faerie tale.'
"a hauntingly delicious dark fantasy" Cassandra clare- new York times bestseller author of 'city of bones'.
"smart, textured and romantic." kirkus reviews.
I hope you all will enjoy the book as same as I had. :)
It is okay, if you like supernatural genre. I read this before the movie. It gets better towards the end.
Im really conflicted now.. I have read the reviews of this book and I can't seem to get an even score on if its good or bad... im looking for a fantasy read for the summer that will keep my interest..HELP!
response for sarah: if you had read the reviews of the book and you are still not convinced, you should go to this website and find out more details about the book/series :http://beautifulcreaturesnovels.com/p...
instructions: you enter the website I wrote you upstairs. then a new window will be reviled to you and you shell see the 4 books in the series, under each book there is a possibility of "read an expert" click on that and you will be able to read the first 6 chapters. by doing that, you could know if you should buy the series/book or not. goodluck :)

It starts out slow and continues that way for a while, then it starts to get more interesting and kind of sucks you in by wanting to find out what happens. When I read the book by the end I wanted to read the next one and the one after that, as it left me curious as to the outcome.
I liked the first book. It was interesting and the story line was good. Then, I started the second book and it wasn't as good as the first book. The movie was not as dark as the book and I did like the movie, but it was a lot different.
I loved the first book, its hard to get through the second book but I'm working on it. Hated the movie. It was nothing like the book at all and his southern accent was annoying and forced.
It was better than the movie. I wasn't really impressed with the book and the ending made me laugh so hard.

yeah its great
Its a great book! Yes it is a bit long, some parts are kind of over explaned. Even so I loved the book. Good movie too, tho never as good as the book. I did not read the other books in the series,I heard they are just as long and it wasnt "that" good. But still a good read.
I agree with Emily on here when she said that she liked the first book but after that she wasn't a fan of the rest. I liked it but after the first book I feel like it slowly. faded. away.

I agree this book was dragged on and on.. I kept trying to finish it but it just took forever!! It took me about 2 months to actually finish it, which is a long time for me to read a book lol It was just an "Alright" book in my opinion I wouldn't recommend it unless you were really bored and have nothing else to read or do..

I thought this book was great. However, if you are thinking it is like the movie, it is not. They changed a lot of it. The movie and the book are both good.
This book is very descriptive, it goes into a lot of detail, which some readers like and some not so much. The book is well written and the characters likeable. It wasn't one of my favourite reads and I never finished the second, having said that, it's well worth a try as you may find it's what you enjoy.
