So I have been brain storming on novel ideas I'd like to write. I think I have come up with. (please don't steal the idea. I know you all wouldn't but it's happened before) I would like to know if this is something you would be interesting in. Also I am hoping to get a writing partner. To support and motivate each other during our writing endeavors and critique each other's novels as it progresses. Here goes:

It's 2177.
And 56 years ago, we found heaven.

Well, the afterlife. It's not heaven anymore. When it was first found out no one was afraid to die anymore. Life was happy, and so was death. It wasn't goodbye anymore. It was more of a "see you later".
For all of a year. Then, because of the the second chance, criminals didn't care about dying so much so both Heaven and Earth became flooded with crime, The death toll on earth was astronomical.
As it goes, once you go to to Heaven, you don't ever come back to Earth. But even in heaven, you don't live forever.
Then 40 years ago kids and teenagers started developping strange abilities. And the Government took them over with the hopes of one day regulating both Heaven and Earth.
So far the project has been kept top secret. And the Government wants to keep it that way.
I'm one of these teens with strange abilities and I have kept them a secret.
But I am about to be discovered and Heaven and Earth are about to change.

This sounds like something I'd read. Have you started writing any of it yet? I've been working on a post-apocolypitic/sci fi ish story. I only wrote like two chapters so far...still kind of brainstorming too. But we should definitely partner up and critique each other.

That sounds amazing. I'd be happy to beta read for you and motivate you as you write. Just email me whatever and I'll look over it when I have a chance.

I've been thinking of two concepts but I haven't done much work with either just yet.

I'm not really putting these into blurbs so much so bear with me.

Valkyrie has a very complicated relationship with her mother and moved out when she was 16. She doesn't know that she is a valkyrie or that her mother was kicked out of Vahalla for getting pregnant with her by a soldier. She's 18, (just graduated hs) now and has been living above a bar/restaurant for the last few years. She doesn't know it but the family she's made for herself are from Vahalla as well. When she gets recruited for a mission for Vahalla by those she has come to love she feels betrayed, but will she be overcome the betrayal to save the world from descending into the biggest war the planet has ever seen?

The second one. I've done way less work on it and it's pretty basic at the moment.

Future date.

Our consciousness is uploaded to the stream, so we never die. Removed from the need to eat, breathe, or worry about death we focus all our attention on gaining knowledge. But what happens if that stream gets hacked.

I LOVE THIS! I would totally read it!!!!!

I'm working on a few ideas, workshopping them through my fiction class so I'd LOVE to buddy up with you for motivation etc though you will probably be more ahead of the game than I! Let me know what you're thinking about in terms of buddy writing!

Both of these sound fanTASTIC!
we should all motivate each other!!

Michelle (shadowrose) These both sound awesome!

I have a few ideas I'm playing with at the moment too, but I'm still kind of mapping things out with them so I don't have enough for a blurb quite yet.
One is sci-fi idea that involves a sort of siren like ability. I have scenes for this one but no real back story so I'm working all of that out.
The second is a fantasy idea that revolves around the myth of Loch Ness with a sort of twist. I got the idea when I wrote a short story for a Figment contest.

How do you guys pick names for your characters? I'm having trouble deciding on which one I want for my MC and I've been looking at baby names sites, but just can't find anything I like

I still haven't picked a name... I want something original but not so weird it turns people off.

sometimes I pick names based on meanings. My fiction class I'm working on a story and I picked her name because we had 2 minutes to write a paragraph about our character and it was my first instinct and it's stuck! LOL

I find sometimes I really over think and then never move on from it because I keep changing my mind ("this one is better, no this name. no this name!!")

Michelle (shadowrose) I pick names based on meanings most of the time. Though the way my story ideas pop up makes it hard to pick because I think in scenes initially before moving on to plotting, so sometimes the characters seem to come with names.

I wrote a story for Nano 2012 and it wasn't till afterward that I realized all my character names are Celtic based when Latin is the only thing that made sense...so I'm going to have to rename them I think. Even though I really don't want to.
