Zara's Retreat This thread is for nominations for our Quarterly Read that will last from June 1st to August 31st. Nominations must fit into the theme for this quarter. General rules below apply too.

The theme for this quarter is...
NEW TO YOU

Nominations need to be books written by an author who is NEW TO YOU. Nominations MUST be in before the 25th May.

Every month we will nominate a book to read and discuss as a group. Any book in any genre can be nominated. After nominations close, a poll will be created so members can vote on which book they'd like to read as a group.

Rules :

1. Only 1 nomination allowed per person.
2. First come first serve up to 10 nominations.
3. If you want to second someone else's nomination feel free to do so but that will be your 1 nomination.
4. If your nomination is chosen as the group read, you will be asked to be the discussion leader for the month. If you choose not to then you will need to inform me.
5. If for some reason you think that the outcome of the poll vote is unfair please contact me and I will do what I can.
6. If the poll vote is a draw then I will cast the deciding vote.

Thanks,
Zara

Annie (louize48) | 291 comments I nominate The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker! I have it AND it looks both historically interesting, but is mostly the story of an unusual friendship that develops between an unlikely pair!

Christen (christenlouise) | 11 comments I would like to nominate Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer. I've wanted to read this book for a while and I actually just came across a copy. Here's a link to see what it's about: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25...

Thanks!
Christen

Zara's Retreat I hope I can do this even if I'm looking after it.

I would like to nominate Wave by Sonali Deraniyagala instead of my previous suggestion.

message 5: by Pink (new)

Pink There are so many authors I could choose for this, but I'm going to nominate Jane Eyre as I have never read any of the Bronte sisters! I keep putting it off each month, but I figure a 3 month period would give me long enough to tackle it!

Zara, I think that Banished: Surviving My Years in the Westboro Baptist Church was one of our group reads in April.

Oops! Sorry. I'll find something else.

message 8: by Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition (last edited May 20, 2013 09:47AM) (new)

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition This was a "First Reads" book sent to me, I never heard of the author before and was pleasantly surprised by the caliber of writing - I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who appreciates an intelligently written book.
"The Next Time You See Me" starts out as a kind of murder mystery, but it is really about the people in a small town and their interactions.
Excellent character development!! I love to really get to know the characters, their backgrounds and their incentives to act in a certain way. Holly Goddard Jones writes in such a compelling way that I found myself thinking about each character and the storyline during the day at work. I could hardly wait to start reading again at the end of the day, during my commute home. This author can make even subjects you may have little knowledge or interest into a fascinating study. It's not so much what happens, it's the how and why that makes this book a good read!

The Next Time You See Me by Holly Goddard Jones

Zara's Retreat Are there any more nominations for this poll before it opens to be voted on? If so, please post your nominations here and I'll add them to the poll.

REMEMBER: The poll starts on the 25th May and ends on the 30th May. The challenge will then start on the 1st June.

Enjoy your final hours of nominations.
