Elizabeth Yu-Gesualdi | 21 comments I'd have to say that my favorite contemporary romances are Sugar Daddy, Blue Eyed Devil and Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas. The three novels are part of the Travises series and are VERY good. Out of the three, my fave was Sugar Daddy.

Honestly, I've never really thought too much about locale. It doesn't really matter to me where the story takes place. To me, contemporary just means that it takes place either in the present or not so very long ago. 90's and up.

Sonya Heaney lol - It wasn't supposed to be so big!

I just read this one, and loved it: Bringing Maddie Home by Janice Kay Johnson

It doesn't look that good if you go by the cover, but it's a really good mystery/suspense sort of romance by a really great writer.

Jackie Williams | 34 comments Sheila wrote: "Definitely The Road to London by Adriano Bulla it's a totally new approach to romance, via dreams and the imagination. Wonderfully written."

Swallowtail
by Sheri Meshal is another very different approach. I wasn't even sure that it's romance but it is very romantic in an odd sort of way.

Jackie Williams | 34 comments I always feel that contemporary romance should be set in an urban area...sort of 'city living', friends living in apartments, modern and really up to date. I'm not sure that is the right take on it, but it's just how I imagine it to be...It just doesn't feel contemporary if it's set on a farm or in a rural area.

Christine Hayton (ccmhayton) Dianne wrote: "...If the postman is delivering the mail to a farm on a motorcycle, I probably would consider it to be contemporary..."

Jackie wrote: "...it's just how I imagine it to be...It just doesn't feel contemporary if it's set on a farm or in a rural area."

Romance on farms and in rural areas - mail delivered by motorcycle - how do they NOT qualify as contemporary - I've reads lots of great contemporary romance/fiction set in rural country.

Definition of Contemporary: belonging to or occurring in the present. This is not an ambiguous word and I doubt, even in writing, it is open to individual interpretation. Anything written in the present time period is classified as contemporary.
