Awwww I haven't read the book yet, but I have watched the movie and I cried so much! It didn't help thatI watched it at the last day of school and we were all going to separate! By the end of the day, the whole class was crying their eyes out!

I cried my eyes out at the end of the book the NIGHT before I saw the movie. I don't think I could choose book or movie. I loved them both :)
The book for me! I felt the film did not capture the warm glow, the mishaps of Marley! I felt Jennifer Anniston a poor choice for female role! I think Owen only slightly better!!!
For me, the book rules! The book just captures the little details of life with Marley that the movie didn't think were important. they didn't need to cast glam stars to tell Marley's story--Marley was a story on his own! We laughed and cried through the book--the movie was merely amusing.
I would have to go with the book. I don't cry reading. I bought the movie after the book. Bad idea...I cried hard at the end!
Here it is this simple: book is about the dog. Totally. Movie is about the couple...and how the dog relates to the couple. Totally different.
I have to clarify my post... in the book it is like YOU the reader are almost the owner so the punch comes way harder.....
The movie was fun, but the book touched a deep spot. I have had a cast of characters for dogs and they all broke my heart when they died. The book captures the everyday much better than the movie. The movie hits the "highlights" and misses the truly important moments of the little things.
