Robert (bobhe) | 742 comments Just heard of this. Books left in public places and then traced around the world as people find it and leave for others.
Anyone on this know more?

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3101 comments The world book night books used to be registered on book crossing, but they didn't do it this year.

I am always leaving books in odd places and forget to put them on book crossing before I do!

Note to self - will have to do so for the future!

H. | 19 comments In the block of flats where I sometimes stay in London books are sometimes left in the corridor; I have left some there and borrowed others then replaced them when read, seems like a good system and seems to be respected.

Nikks | 525 comments I knew people left books for others to pick up, but I had no idea there was a website to track them etc. How fantastic :-)
I had a bag of read books that I took to the second hand book seller - he offered me such a low price I said no thanks. Instead I am going to register them with Book Crossing, print labels, and start abandoning them ! Hope I find out where some of them have gone.

H. | 19 comments Not quite sure how this book crossing works, registering and all that. Could someone please explain a litte more? Harry.

This look like the right website.

Nikks | 525 comments When you register with them (its free), they send you an introductory letter, which explains everything.

But the book tracking bit works by you printing numbered labels that have some explanation, then you register the book on Book Crossing with that specific number. If anyone picks it up, they will see the label and explanation. They can go onto Book Crossing and you can track its progress :)

There are other features on the Book Crossing site, such as virtual book shelves and how to hunt book pages near you in the wild (their use of words, not mine :) etc.

Looks like fun. Thanks for the info, I've registered! Just need to select a couple of books to release now!

I've just returned from Sunny Spain and released my first Book Crossing book in a tapas bar while I was there! Fingers crossed someone finds it. I'm guessing I'll need to release a good 20+ to have a hope of 1 or 2 getting found. Anyone know the success rate?
