Is it worth it to get your book professional edited or do you think friends and family will do the trick???

I went both routes with my book. I first let family edited it and now it's in the hands of a professional editor. I think it's great to get the opinion from family and friends first. It's unfortunate that they might not give you an honest opinion. My editor already gave me back chapters 1 and 2 asking for more details. Meanwhile, my family said it was perfect so it may be worth the money to get it professional edited before you self-publish or give it to an agents. Marianna
