They are genetically the same smallish, easy gaited horses that are often seen in fun colors like chocolate and red chocolate, but the Rocky Mountain registry is closed to outside breeds and restricted to 13.2 to 15.2 hands. while the KY Mountain registry allows crossing in other gaited breeds and permits pony size and horses over 15.2H.They are both usually calm, good thinking and quite user friendly.
The Rockies walk and easy gait, but the KY Mountains will often do all 5 gaits when asked, walk, easy gait, trot, pace, canter.
