I would recommend either the "Letter to families" or "On the meaning of human suffering" by Pope John Paul II, or the Vatican II document "Gaudium et spes."
If you are settling for Literature, then go for short stories like The Heroic Face of Innocence: Three Stories.
2012 Tuscany Prize for Catholic Fiction - Selected Short Stories. www.Tuscanypress.com. Or if you'd like a novella or novel, Tuscany also has "The Book of Jotham" by Arthur Powers, and my southern fiction novel, "A Hunger in the Heart," which has discussion questions for books clubs.
This isn't exactly what you describe as wanting, but you might check out this massive book, INTRODUCTION TO CATHOLICISM FOR ADULTS (https://www.comcenter.com/product/MWT...). It's very good and readable.

I am re-starting a men's Catholic study group to focus on Catholic Church writings in the form of short stories, encyclicals, letters, etc. that we can discuss over the course of one to three meetings. We have tried taking up the study of books in the past but it is difficult to complete them within a duration which keeps the group engaged.
If you know of any good material fitting this purpose, your feedback is most welcomed. It works just as well if you have a web-site where such material can be found.
Thanks ahead of time for your help.
God Bless.
Joe
