Can anyone recommend a book on Cyprus - history / geography / coffee-table-type - for a friend's 60th birtday - his family is originally from Cyprus and he still has family living there.

Omiros Avramidis is a very popular Cypriot novelist, so is Andri Polydorou (Άντρη Πολυδώρου). Makarios Drousiotes has written some great books on Cyprus history and politics, and poets like Vasilis Michaelides, Thodosis Pieridis and Costas Montis are also popular.
Bitter Lemons of Cyprus is an autobiographical work by Lawrence Durrell, describing the three years (1953–1956) he spent on the island during the people's struggle for the end of British rule and for self-determination and Enosis(union with Greece). Also, Cyprus is famous for its food, and Sandri Lysandrou wrote some great books on Cyprus cooking.
