Hey everyone. I'm new to this page. I read a lot and am not really picky about what I read. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome to the group! I suggest Water For Elephants as well as participating the in group reads. Also, you can really expand your reading horizons by participating in the Spring Challenge!
Welcome to TNBBC, Jen. I like the book we are discussing this month, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Don't worry. You will get plenty of recommendations here. The trouble is your TBR list will increase drastically.
Hi Jen, fellow -PAer...
Welcome to the group. Might I suggest this months books, and the ones voted in for May for starters?

I am new to this book group as of today, and just found out about Good Reads a couple months ago. I have a couple suggestions for you, titles I recently finished and really enjoyed! Shadow of the Wind, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. :-)
Hi Jen - PA? Which end of the state? I lived west of Philly for years and years. What books have you loved?
Atishay wrote: "Welcome Jen! What kind of books do you usually like?"I live North of Pittsburgh. I read a lot of different things. Right now I am reading White Fang. I recently read Call of the Wild, Interview with a Vampire, Vampire Lestat, The Princess Bride, I read a lot of Nora Roberts, I've been reading the Redwall series by Brian Jacques, The Anne of Green Gables books, I like Steven King and Dean Koontz.

The movie was great too.
Hi Jen! I lived in your area once (about 2 decades ago...). The Princess Bride is one of my all-time favorite reads. I am also an eclectic reader. Welcome.

I love Princess Bride. I love the movie and was a little afraid that it would ruin the movie for me, but it didn't. they actually fit really well together

hi jen, fellow PGHer here! i have loads of books on my list, feel free to check them out! if you like connected/series style books, check out the Thursday Next series from Jasper Fforde. they are funny and well written!
Welcome Jen! Not picky? Wish I was able to read anything since I love reading, but put half the books down :( I just read Agnus and the Hitman...I highly recommend it!
Sherry wrote: "Welcome Jen! Not picky? I just keep reading and hope it gets better. My husband hates that because I keep complaining about the book.
Hi Jen! I live in Buffalo, so hello from a fellow north-easterner.I read The Time Traveler's Wife a few weeks ago and highly recommend it, based on your wide variety of favorite books. The movie is coming out at the end of the summer so try to read it before then - I think you'll zip through it, it's very hard to put down.
Also, if you're into memoirs, I finished The Glass Castle yesterday and could NOT put it down for three days. Absolutely amazing book!!

I have heard really good things about both of those books. I'll have to put them on my to be picked up list. I didn't realize that they are making a movie out of The Time Traveler's Wife. I really need to read it now. I love reading books then watching the movie to complain about everything I think they screwed up! You should have seen me when I went to see Twilight!
I can only imagine - that's one reason I never read Twilight (among many other reasons!). But I definitely agree on the fun of watching a movie after reading the book. Most often I end up disappointed, but that's to be expected!

Harry Potter movies were not bad and I loved the books! The Princess Bride was a great movie and book. They did really well with that one. That is probable the best Book to Movie I have seen!
I just started reading The City of Ember. A friend of mine recommended them. Has anyone read them? Are they worth the time to read? I don't have much time for reading anymore and don't want to waste my time if they are not that good. I have never seen the movie. From what I read on the back it seems kind of like the Giver which is one of my favorite books.
I just picked up The Time Travel's Wife and am going to read it after I finish The City of Embers series. The City of Ember is a really fast read so I hope it doesn't take me to much longer to get through all three books! I came home from work and my husband picked it up as a surprise! It was so sweet!
1.The City of Ember (finished 5/4/09)2.The People of Sparks(finished 5/22/09)
3.The Prophet of Yonwood(finished 6/3/09)
4.The Diamond of Darkhold (finished 6/5/09)
5.The Time Traveler's Wife(Finished 5/20/09)
6.I Am Legend(Finished 5/12/09)
This is my reading list so far.7.The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
8.The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
9.The Glass Castle A Memoir(Finished 5/27/09)
10.Water for Elephants
I'm not really far into it, but so far it is good. It gives you more insite to what he is thinking. I have a friend that let me borrow it and she said the book is good but it is one case where the movie is better. I don't know if I agree with that she said they are really different. I just really hope she is wrong that the movie is better!
Huh, that is interesting that she said the movie was better. I loved the movie, which is one reason I'm hesitant to read the book (usually it's the other way around for me).Our reading lists are so similar, I have read half of your list. Similar tastes I guess! I can't wait to hear what you think of some of them.
Most of them I have been wanting to read for ever. I have a horrible habit of reading more then one book at a time and it takes me a long time to get through one book but then I have like four done really close together. I loved the movie for I am Legend and really wanted to read the book. I know what you mean about liking the movie and not really being sure if you want to read the book. That has ruined so many movies for me. I read Princess Bride a while ago and it was one of those things where I didn't want it to ruin the movie since it is an all time favorite, but it didn't they went really well together! Now the movie is an all time favorite and so is the book! I will let you know what I think of the books!
Christina I see that you are reading the Other Boleyn Girl. Let me know what you think. I have it at home to read but have not picked it up yet
See, we do have a lot of books in common!I'm 100 pages in and so far I'm not a fan. I'm still waiting for it to get interesting. I'll keep you posted.
I heard it was really hard to get into. I don't have a lot of time to read since I work 2 jobs so I don't really want to start a book that is going to take me forever to get into. I want something that pulls me in from the start. I am Legend does that and so does the Time Treveler's Wife which are the 2 main books of the 4 that I am reading.
Yeah the only reason I finally got around to reading this was because the library was closed and I needed a book (I bought it at a used store a while back). Now I might as well finish it, I suppose. But it's not the kind of book that leaves me dying to read it when I have to set it down, ya know? I'm hoping it gets better.
I hope it does to I got it for Christmas. I love reading books that when you have to put them down you can't help but wonder what is happening next. I've even read some that I end up dreaming about.
A reading experience like that does not happen often enough, in my opinion. That's how I felt about "The Glass Castle" - I don't think I had read a book that did that to me in a long time. It was refreshing. Although "The World According to Garp" was pretty close to that too.
I always see things going a different way when I think about it. I know what you mean I don't have very many books like that. I think I am Legend if you don't think about the movie when you read it there are so many things that they can do with it! The Glass Castle is on my list to read! I might have to pick that up soon.
I Am Legend the movie cannot be compared to the book because it was sooooo far removed from what happened in the novel. Two totally separate things. The book was awesome, the movie was awesome.... but I cannot compare them as the same thing. Just too different.
Two cases of the book matching the movie excellently:
High Fidelity
Princess Bride
Must sees and must reads!

Lori, I have been dying to read High Fidelity for ages, and that's what I would be reading now rather than The Other Boleyn Girl if the library had only been open!!! I'm glad to hear that you recommend it as well.
Princess Bride the same guy that wrote the book wrote the screen play - at least that is what I read somewhere. It was perfect. I am glad to hear you like the book in I am Legend. I love the movie and when I heard they were really different I was worried.
I Am Legend the book stands alone in its greatness! You really should pick it up!
Christina, do yourself a favor and get your hands on that one to read.... the movie plays in your head as you read it!

I am currently reading I am Legend! So far it is really good. I'm not that far into it, but I already notice a lot of things that are different!
hi Jen! Welcome. I would like to read I am legend. Keep us updated on how it goes!
I am about half way through with it....It is really good but nothing like the movie. I will say that it is a fast read since in have only been reading it for a couple days and only on my lunch break.
I wanted to let everyone know that I finished I am Legend and I really liked it. You really can't compair it to the movie. It really seems like the only thing they took from the book and put into the movie was his name, but they did it in a way that you are ok with.
Thanks for the update on the book. I'm glad to hear you liked it, I'm looking forward to getting to it.
