What is your personal wider reading goal for this year:
It might include your intention to read in a range of different genres and/or formats, to read books by a particular author; to share & discuss books & reading with a family member and/or friend, etc.
Keep it realistic as you will be expected to monitor your progress as you go.

I wish to read the recent translation of Tolstoy's War and Peace, and find a new book which transforms my perception of the self or the world. Any recommendations?

I would love to hear ideas about books and stories that we don't have time discuss in class. I would like Year 9 to be about enthusiasm and fun with books we are reading and ideas we are encountering, as well as being about working on our curriculum tasks.

It's interesting to think about how many translations there are for classics, and how different they are from each other. I have a copy of War and Peace in Russian at home which will sadly never be read by anyone in my house.

We do have Silmarillion in the library collection. I must say I'd never heard of it until you mentioned it and I looked it up. Personally I find Tolkien's descriptions over the top.

Have you started? How far have you read, Milan?
