Kamila | 5 comments Do you think that this type of government/ society would be able to function in the world as we know it now? Why or why not?

Catie (fangirl247) | 5 comments No this would go way out of proportion one people would probably not follow there government so well two people would try to control others thinking they had more power for example say a dauntless saw a erudite that wouldn't go so well or a candor in a fight with abenegation they both disagree abenegation blames selfless and candor there honest a little to much some people would not like being controlled or only have 5 choices to decide from

Sophie (warpedline) | 8 comments It could work- but it would in the end be the same outcome in the book(s). There is simply too much individuality to "classify" each person. The amount of Divergence we would have in the 21st Century would be overwhelming.

do you think everyone belongs/ could fit int one of the factions.. or would there need to be more? why?

I suppose there's enough Factions already because they are all very generalised-

Erudite for anyone who is intelligent/desperate to learn or maybe just a fast learner. For the scientists, the teachers, the keen students, etc.

Abnegation for those that feel like they are in the way of everyone else (and there are plenty of people in the world that feel this way sadly), or those that feel the need to help others but don't want to draw attention to themselves.

Candor for those who don't like lying, or for those who like to be open. This might be a majority of people under dictatorships, for example- they have been lied to, tricked, etc and they believe that everyone must be honest, based on their experiences.

Amity for the empathetic and the peaceful and the creative- which is plenty of people. For those who love working the land, or just the happy and cheerful people in general.

Dauntless for all those who are brave and courageous, for bravery comes in many forms. This could be soldiers, r it could be the single mum looking after her 5 children by herself.

The world is a very large and diverse place. I am doubtful that this form of society would work for very long, but I think that, if forced, most would be able to choose a single faction. But, maybe there would have to be a separate faction for the Divergent- because I would be, as I'm sure millions of other people would be/are. I'm intelligent, but I'm also creative and don't like fighting, and I don't like drawing attention to myself. I'm not very brave (ie. I'm TERRIFIED of heights) but I am brave in other ways.
We are all different, and personally, I think it would be a form of oppression to make us choose what our lives will be at only 16.

Haha same :) I'm not afraid of a fights, but it's the heights that get to me :P Wish I could be Dauntless :( And no problem :)

I don't think it would work because for anyone to feel inspired in life they have to be able to be themselves. If people aren't inspired they're work lacks.

Haley Sims | 1 comments I'd say itd be AWESOME to have a government like this just because the thrill of being a dauntless, but you have to think..we are not genetically damaged so we would be going from faction to faction cause are moods are different every day, one day we could be feeling brave then the next day we could feel like helping others or to just go picking through the earths fields because we are just feeling peaceful that day. It would be breaking the rules but it seems like 80% of people like to break the rules we have now in our government. Teenagers sneak out past curfew, and the criminals.
As a Divergent Fan, I wish we had a government like this..it could teach people a lesson, and it would overall be a good learning experience for everyone. Im just saying this bc I love Divergent and I would just love to live in the book. I'd personally want to be Dauntless, not just because Tris and Four are Dauntless but because most of them are kind, smart, strong, brave, and selfless. Not just brave.
